It's quite clear the artist is much more comfortable with realism than cartoony stuff. Take the pony out and you could absolutely have a nice fantasy piece though.

I think the horrifying part is not so much the quality, or even necessarily the content.
But rather that after finishing this picture the artist likely imagined getting on Twilight Sparkle's back and flying through this fantasy landscape... before fucking the shit out of her.
