Russian tactics are zerg tactics, they're willing to sacrifice troops to overwhelm their enemy with numbers.

These losses aren't embarrassing when using Russian tactics, they understand that munitions are limited, and by fielding more cheap armor and inexperienced soldiers they can win by depleting the enemy. That's why there were Russian police in the 1st waves

the 'human wave' meme in ww2 was never an intentional and deliberate strategy for the russians/soviets, it was a matter of sheer desperation because the initial advance of barbarossa had completely overwhelmed their army and logistics, so they often found themselves in situations where they have soldiers in positions that are unsustainable, where the only way 'out' is forward, so that's what they did, regardless of insufficient supplies, cause it was the only option they had.
like yeah sending a bunch of ill equipped soldiers with not enough ammo to attack wehrmacht panzer army positions isn't a good look, but when the only alternative is getting these soldiers surrounded (which basically means you lose all of them for free) then a 'zerg rush' is the only move they can make.

now regarding the current war, i don't think we're seeing anything like that. the closest is probably LDPR guys walking around the battlefield with antiquated equipment, but i don't believe they're being sent on suicide missions.
