Also, they barely put effort into the hair. On close inspection you can see that each 'dread' is just a fuzzy brush texture with a stroke effect. It's also quite telling that they assume 'dreadlocks or afro' are the only two hairstyles black people can have.

It does have a lot of LGBT representation: The whole show is about Blackbeard and Bonnett falling in love, Jim is a natal woman that goes by they/them, and there's a sassy faggot running around.

However, there's never a "THESE ARE MY PRONOUNS, RESPECT THEM" talk when it comes to Jim. People from her past, upon encountering her, call her by her real name and she just asks them to call her Jim. Next scenes they just call her they/them, implying that the retarded pronoun talk happened offscreen, and I think this is as natural as that can be written into a comedy show. More importantly, Jim has her own storyline so she isn't reduced to her pronouns nor does she ever throw a hissy fit when people call her by her name or refer to her as she (beyond the funny scene right after the crew finds out). She is a rounded character and gets together with a man at the end of S1, which I am sure made someone somewhere upset.

The tranny nonsense doesn't fit Blackbeard (or Bonnet) since they are shown as children in flashbacks and they have always been very much males. And the open faggot is funny, helps the plot advance and is more than his sexuality, something the artists that get posted in this thread generally forget when creating OCs or troonifying existing characters.

So yeah, troonBeard is a retarded headcanon that makes about much sense as troonrobots or pretending women who gave birth are MTFs. But the show itself is fine.

The #1 reason I hear is “Well no one cares about them because they’re black!!”. Plenty of characters with brown skin are/were popular in media (Nessa, Marina, Korra, Michiko, Luz) so I don’t understand this mentality… it just seems like an excuse to not even try.
