April 2022: 49% of Democrats say the country is heading in the right direction.
May 2022: 33% of Democrats say the country is heading in the right direction.

That's a positive sentiment drop of -16% in a single month. Question is, why? It's not like rising gas prices are anything new.

This also coincides with a drop in Biden's overall approval among Democrats, from 82% in April to 73% in May (the lowest level of his whole presidency). Support among independents has also dropped to a new low at 39%.

Like I said, people talk about China's population decline, but conveniently forget the US has the same problem and has less tolerance for it.
It's all over the world. More places would be able to easily manage it if they didn't rely on infinitely-increasing taxes to sustain the ponzi schemes that are their mandatory spending.

I’m not familiar with Yarvin/Moldbug enough to go into great detail, but the cathedral and the elite’s pathological need to feel like they’re doing something important I think are pretty spot on.

As I said I’m not super familiar with him, so let me know if I’m missreading him.

As for Ted? He saw the left as overmedicated, oversocialized diletantes that make terrible long term calls because they fundamentally don’t understand how the order they created works anymore. The right is framed as basically being an extension of that kid that keeps giggling because they discovered some naughty thing they werent supposed to know turned up to 11.

Oh it’s not just China, theirs is sharper, but it’s the entire world. Europe is headed that way, Japan is already dealing with it, South Korea too, and even Africa is headed in that direction, although not as far along as the rest of the world. The next 50 or so years is going to be one marked with decline across the globe. We haven’t lived in a period of stagnation for a while, so it’ll be interesting and sad to see.

Immigration can’t fix it. Many of the countries immigrants are coming from will hit the same wall as Japan, China, Southern Europe, etc. At best it’s a temporary fix.

Found a quote that sums it up pretty well.

Leftists of the oversocialized type tend to be intellectuals or members of the upper-middle class. Notice that university intellectuals constitute the most highly socialized segment of our society and also the most leftwing segment.
28. (fr) The leftist of the oversocialized type tries to get off his psychological leash and assert his autonomy by rebelling. But usually he is not strong enough to rebel against the most basic values of society. Generally speaking, the goals of today’s leftists are NOT in conflict with the accepted morality. On the contrary, the left takes an accepted moral principle, adopts it as its own, and then accuses mainstream society of violating that principle.”

Edit: Another one.

Leftists may claim that their activism is motivated by compassion or by moral principles, and moral principle does play a role for the leftist of the oversocialized type. But compassion and moral principle cannot be the main motives for leftist activism. Hostility is too prominent a component of leftist behavior; so is the drive for power. Moreover, much leftist behavior is not rationally calculated to be of benefit to the people whom the leftists claim to be trying to help. For example, if one believes that affirmative action is good for black people, does it make sense to demand affirmative action in hostile or dogmatic terms? Obviously it would be more productive to take a diplomatic and conciliatory approach that would make at least verbal and symbolic concessions to white people who think that affirmative action discriminates against them.
But leftist activists do not take such an approach because it would not satisfy their emotional needs. Helping black people is not their real goal. Instead, race problems serve as an excuse for them to express their own hostility and frustrated need for power. In doing so they actually harm black people, because the activists’ hostile attitude toward the white majority tends to intensify race hatred.”

You were 10 at the most.

NOBODY saw it coming, and anyone who says they saw it coming and it was obvious at the time is full of shit.
Funny I’ve heard people say that about covid in the February that wfh started.
COVID was a mirage. A shell game to make you think the world was falling apart and if only you voted the correct way, maybe we could fix things. The mainstream media removed the 24/7 death counters from their broadcasts as soon as Joe Biden won his election with a rigged public discourse.
It’s funny how a pandemic can’t do what poor governance can. Poor leadership in a time of a little turbulence will cause more damage than great leadership in a disaster. The next several elections are going to be disasters for the Democrats since they installed a block head as president. To be blunt I don’t think even Sanders or Jeb could screw up this bad.

I can't wait for Biden to go to Venezuela, and beg the Churro, on his knees, for fuel. And I don't remember if Venezuela still even has the capability to refine oil at this point. They also already started easing off some of the sanctions there.
We don't, you guys will have to first repair all the shit the Iranians and chinese broke to even get something out of it and it will cost billions for it and take to much time

Btw Maduro want the Americans to come fast because the commies believe Biden is going down and Trump will not allow this cuddling when he comes back

Exactly. The accusation becomes the dominant idea which is an idea that validates the use of power and that which the cathedral is biased towards.

Yarvis:

"The idea of climate alarmism corresponds to action. The idea of climate denialism corresponds to inaction. Without knowing which side is right, we can observe that alarmism is a dominant idea, whereas denialism is a recessive idea.
"It is not hard to see why, in the lecture halls and newsrooms, dominant ideas tend to outcompete recessive ideas. A dominant idea is an idea that tends to benefit you and your friends. A dominant idea will be especially popular with your friends and former students in the civil service, because it gives them more work and more power."

He has a lot of good nuggets for sure, his writing is all new to me, and just enjoying a fresh perspective.

Who is Ted, btw?

Why is it declining worldwide? Easier access to birth control? Better confidence that any one kid will reach adulthood? Increased technology so not as many are needed to help the parents in agriculture/business? Declining rates of religious belief or feeling of having a responsibility to society to reproduce?

Mostly the higher confidence that kids will reach adulthood, and the fact that as most countries around the world move along the developing -> developed economy track, it becomes more expensive to raise each individual child at the higher standard of living that comes with advancement along said track.

The unabomber.

Dude’s a complete whackjob, but he had moments of brilliance in his manifesto.

Even if we started import Venezuelan oil tomorrow, I doubt the Gulf refineries are still setup to run the shitty feedstock that is Churro crude.
Catching this late, but several gulf refineries (especially in Louisiana) are actually set up to process such crude. Venezuelan oil is very similar to Albertan oil (itself already processed on the gulf) and several refiners did process it before all the sanctions hit. Same with Russian oil, that was imported because it was suited for these refineries.

The problem is that tooling up to extract and then receive Venezuelan crude will take months - and that's before dealing with the politics of enabling such trade. Killing Keystone, banning Russian oil imports, and refusing to consider Canadian oil replacements has ensured things are going to get significantly worse before they get better.

I'm getting so tired of this disingenuous platitude of "one death is too many." Flying formula in from Europe isn't the win you think it is, Joe. What about the carbon footprint of this endeavor? It's all over the news this morning, painted as a victorious rescue mission of some sort and not as a failure of the administration to address the issue domestically.

Reminder that even the closest entity that you depend on for your livelihood, your workplace, considers you a Human Resource. Never forget that not only do The Big They not care about you, they are actively trying to demoralize and outright kill you.

Meanwhile, they're still trying to figure out how to let the PRC export occasionally poisonous formula to the USA in exchange for the decades of bribes they've paid our politicians.

Saw a meme on Insta yesterday that was like "Third world dictators when they win the election by 175% of the votes" and most of the replies were variants of, "America," "Joe Biden," and "80 million votes."
How on earth are they going to "fortify" the election in 2024? Like 30% of Americans approve of Biden and his approval among the young and Hispanics is like 20-25%.

Biden even getting the majority of the popular vote isn't even remotely plausible with his numbers they way they are.

you know all those people who died while biden was in office? they're voting for biden.

It’s a little bit of everything. I’ve heard different demographers argue different points.

Demography isn’t a popular field with leftists, even though it has a lot of leftists in it, because it’s a field that’s politically inconvenient. The tldr is that a lot demographers are black pilled. Some of the worst ones tend to come across as the frothing homeless guy waving a sign saying the end is nigh. This was especially the case before Trump when many progressives believed the world would progress constantly, that Japan China would overtake the US and become a superpower, that Europe could do nothing wrong, and that gay space communism was just around the corner.

Imagine being a Movie Bob type of guy in 2009. Obama is the president, the racist republicans are done for because “demographics are destiny,” and there’s some nerd in the corner that thinks we’re on the precipice of DOOOM. Even if the nerd was a woman and progressive, the nerd would grind your gears. You wouldn’t like that she’s freaking out about the birth rates of conservatives v progressives, pointing out that social safety nets won’t be financially tenable with current trends, and that single mother households are not ideal. Furthermore the neo-con in sheep clothing has the audacity to think that just because you bring immigrants into a country it doesn’t necessarily make up for the gdp loss of decreased fertility rates. Then she has the Gaul to say that not all western countries are as good at integrating immigrants to begin with as the US, she implies that there could be social upheaval because of it, and that even the fertility rates of countries with immigrant populations is dropping, so immigration isn’t a long term solution. Worse, she thinks that gay space communism isn’t around the corner and is threatening my hope that I could live forever in a robot body. Oh and she’s friends with the crypto fascist geographer.

Conservatives will argue that the proliferation of feminism and women in the work place is the cause. Essentially it has encouraged women to not have children until much later in life and by then many are infertile or they can only squeeze a kid or two out. Progressives will point out that more socially conservative Southern Europe & Asia is facing a steeper decline and attribute it to misogyny and laws that allow employers to vet if someone’s pregnancy status, if they have children, etc. They then point to Italy, Spain, South Korea, and Japan as examples of this. They’ll also point to Northern Europe as a positive example while ignoring the statistics of women who were born there and the fact that not every immigrant is actually contributing to the gdp. (Even immigrant women reproduce less if they’re born in Europe vs those born outside it).

The increase of birth control is a big one, especially in historically Catholic and African countries. Technology and having more things to do other than fuck also is a factor. If there was no tv, no vidya, no radio, what else would a young couple do? The increase of porn consumption, especially by males, can be enough to satisfy someone enough that they can’t be bothered to get laid. Other factors also include secularism which does not build a new infrastructure for people to socialize ie date. It simply tears down the old.

Others will point to the cost of having children has changed significantly. In the past children were assets, especially in agrarian communities. The more kids you had the more free labor you had for at least 18 years. As societies become more urban, and child labor laws are passed, children work less and therefore no longer become assets. Therefore there is less of a financial incentive to have them.

The cost of ‘having children properly’ is a major reason too. In China for example they’ve developed a culture of investing heavily in a child so they can get the best outcome possible. This is why many Chinese have only one child even when they immigrate outside of the country. It’s also why the CPP can’t get them to have more kids even with the minimum being increased. This again is tied back to higher life expectancies. This strategy would be insane when kids died all the time but it’s not as crazy now, although it can be financially crippling for those that do lose their child. Left wing demographers often want to pay people more to be parents, make preschool cheaper, etc. Right wing often want to bring down the cost of living, reduce taxes, etc.

Outside of China this is true as well but to a lesser extent. People can’t afford kids because they’re expensive. When the state subsidizes the cost of child bearing it can prop it up somewhat but that’s why many poor women are single mothers which isn’t necessarily ideal either.

Part of the reason kids are expensive is due to government policies that attributed children to weaker economies and also were implemented at a time when overpopulation was a concern. The most extreme believers in this were the Chinese. The thesis partially played out thanks to what’s known as the demographic dividend. Basically, when you have more workers than dependents, then your economy will boom. When you have more dependents, they’ll hold down the economy somewhat. Children outside of most agrarian societies are not workers, which is a good thing imo, so they drag the economy down. The demographic dividend helped propel Japan’s and later China‘s economies. However, as their populaces started to age, the workers became less productive, and the number of dependents increased. Furthermore, the young take more risks when it comes to investments and often spur new innovations, markets, and industries. The elderly just want to hold onto what they have. In countries in which children are expected to care for their ageing parents, the responsibilities of caring for their progenitors could take up all the time and resources of a single worker. In the past this wasn’t as much of an issue as the cost could be spread out amongst all the children.

In Asian countries in particular, which have longer life expectancies, someone who retired at 50 or 60 could live another 30-40 years. Even if they never retire, they will become less productive with time. Compare this to a child who could start entering the workforce after a decade or two. A child at least will grow up to be a worker and contribute. The elderly will become less productive over time. Furthermore, the elderly are more like to be in positions of power, so they are more likely to protect their interests at the expense of younger generations. This still occurs with authoritarian regimes and isn’t just because the elderly can outnumber and outvote the youth. If anything authoritarian regimes make it easier to crack down on the younger demographics as they don’t have as much voice and more importantly connections.
