Has anyone been playing that Valkyrie Connect x Hololive collab event? It took me a few days to get into it. I've never been into mobile games and even less gacha games. But this whole event has been fun and not nearly as headache inducing as I imagined. They even had a nice birthday message for Ina last week.

Gacha games are judged too harshly imo. They can be complete bullshit with garbage rates but ultimately they're still f2p. I'll take a f2p that can give me 60+ hours of entertainment where i can shell out 15$ for a skin or what have you, over paying 70$+tip and the inevitable dlc packs at 20+$ each for a fucking 20 hour triple A game.

Clip tax, Furen and Toko together is always a recipe for greatness.

Somehow my brain didn't register that it was very special because it's clearly an off-collab until they mentioned the words and I'm like "oh yeah that's not normal". Maybe I just got used to off-collabs with Nijisanji and Kiara+Reine.

Nah, some are like virtual cigarettes and alcohol. Generally bad for you, you still consume em in moderation. Better still when they have collabs of other brands you like. Example:

this was ofc, back when Holo had a stake in China. So the collab was $$$ and great exposure for Hololive. Ofc, I was in the rabbithole already and this was like finding out there's a BOGO for a pallet of your favorite beer.

Spoiler: the caveat of gachas

ofc, like you pointed out, it can be virtual heroin. As long as you don't fall into the pitfall of spending thousands of dollars for a png or stealing your parents CC (wait.. this sounds familiar somehow), it's like smokes and booze.

Unfortunately, the fallout from Coco x Taiwan plus generally how the CCP has been treating mobile games and the fact that the devs are originally from China means it's unlikely you will ever see a new Holo collab (or permissions) from any gacha game (or just in general any game) that the devs or publishers have a big stake in China (see debacle on Genshin, Muse Dash, etc).

There is a shift though. Seems like with the heavy handedness of the CCP plus how long it has been, you see collabs being thrown left and right though still mostly from devs and publishers from outside of China. So either the devs and publishers have now given a rat's ass about the Chinese market (good riddance) or the market in China is so regulated now only those that began in CCPland stay in CCPland (equally good riddance because it acts like self containment) and only they will miss out on the collaboration with Hololive (pretty sure Niji had some in CCPland but I'm fuzzy on that).

I feel like in the time I've lurked the thread every 500 pages or so there seems to be a discussion akin to the anime pedo thing, or something similar. I'm kinda surprised a potato design like Gura attracts that crowd at all, it takes heavily stylized fanart to bring out anything of her design in that way. Shion feels like she should be the Patient Zero of HoloUwoohh. I'm a normal weeb though and the ones who activate my almonds are Lamy, Noel, and Marine and the like.

I remember before the Cocopocalypse there was a lot of rumors flying around of the Hololive collab getting a rerun with new girls being added like Marine.

I started playing as soon as the collab was announced cus I didn't know if you needed a decently leveled and geared team to do whatever missions to get the Hololive girls. Thankfully the event is super generous, you'll get all four Holo girls and all the basic gears and materials to level them to max or near max level eventually just by doing all the basic daily missions. No need to summon them and risk having to pay actual $$ if your luck sucks.
