President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

WSJ does an article on possible civil unrest in Egypt due to bread shortages.

There are talks that may be some NATO countries need to provide armed escort to Ukrainian grain ships, UK seems to lead that. Keep in mind that next year is not going to be much better as this years harvest is sus at best.

If the Daring Class is even half as good as advertised we only need to shove one of those and a Frigate near the Bosphorous to escort the carriers.

A diplomat at Russia’s mission to the United Nations in Geneva has resigned over the war in Ukraine, writing that he has never been “so ashamed” of his country, in a rare public rebuke of the war from within the Russian government.

In a letter circulated to colleagues in Geneva and posted on a LinkedIn account in his name as well as on Facebook, Boris Bondarev, counselor at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, said he had left the civil service Monday.

Zhirinovsky son changed his name to Garcia and is off to Spain. Reportedly, RF AG's son Chaika has changed his name to "Hemingway" and has disappeared as well.

I call BS that RF high ranking diplomat just found out truth about RF dip-corps, since most of the same retoric dates back to 2014. It's more likely that rats are smelling the water below and trying to escape while they can and exodus will increase. There are more news like that, but not too official, concerning RF military staff looking for political asylum in NATO countries for themselves and their families.

One of the downsides of having a large empire, I guess...

To be fair, Most muslims in south Russia were already subjugated by the end of the 19th century. Only the Chechens remained troublesome but after the Second Chechen War the Kadyrovs were installed and starting playing ball with the federal government. The number of terrorist attacks in Russia steeply declined after this.

So it's a very different situation to the muslim rapefugees of western and central Europe.

Judging by the apparent age he's hinting at he's 34-38, at best 40 years old. He was a baby when USSR was already in its twilight years.
These are the most disgusting z-bots/rushills because they basically are nostalgic children, who remember only the good parts or (even worse, if they've immigrated) have been indoctrinated by their parents.

I also assumed he's just saving his ass, this is the most sensible thing he could do at this point. Now, if he decides to remain in Russia with all this, I would actually respect it.
Otherwise it's few years overdue.

As for oligarch spawn trying to hide in foreign countries that are supposedly so globohomo they must be destroyed, well... Is anyone really surprised? Many Russian officials have families living in the decadent West, but Russia is still the best. God, I'm so tired of this.

It's widely speculated that Putin staged apartment bombings to trigger the Second Chechen War, like a KGB glowie that he is.

He's too coherent for a common vatnik, to vatniks English is like garlic to vampires. I assume he might be a migrant somewhere in Germany or some other European country, if not somewhere else in the West.

The Type 45s could be be literal floating junk and they'd still be enough to stand off the Russians from attacking Ukrainian ships. Hell a couple of dudes in a dinghy probably could.

I doubt that. The Russians already had a casus belli to invade Chechnya when Chechen terrorists invaded Dagestan almost a month before the apartment bombings.

Hard to believe how someone can be wrong this confidently to just memoryhole it and keep going with other statements. 1421214.JPG

Putin really didn't miss the opportunity to own the US. The United States really look like cucks. This so far wasn't an absolute humiliation for Russia lmao.

Anyway to provide something relevant:

A VAT fall of that scale might be telling about the state of the economy of Russia currently. Also more and more dependency on fossil fuels while the world moves more and more away from said resources might be a recipe for disaster.

Source seems to be down. The tweet only links another site. So I cannot really verify how trustworthy this is.

It's different - Russia actually polices its Muslim populations, so even if what you said is true, there wouldn't be much of a problem for the rest of the country. And they would be mostly relegated to the territories that they've been living on for centuries - even before the Russian conquest.

In Western Europe they are mostly immigrants and they get pampered by the government even if they kill, rape and steal. And if you don't like that - well that's hate speech, and you get fined and go to jail, bigot!

You will never be a superpower. You have no modern army, you have no industrial base, you have no force projection. You are a kleptocracy twisted by oil money into a crude mockery of a functional country.
All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back even irrelevant third worlders and your puppet states mock you.
Your parents, the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your ghoulish appeals for help behind closed doors.
Other countries are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of historical evolution have allowed them to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency.
Even failed countries who “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a functional country. Your school toilets are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a desperate African warlord home with you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a whiff of your hiv infected, abortion wound.
No amount of tainted vodka or krokodil will make you happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning you'll look in the mirror in the outhouse and tell yourself it’s going to be better, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like the Russian Winter, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll start military manoeuvres, invade a smaller country, fail miserably, and plunge into the cold abyss.
Your parents will look at you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to suffer the unbearable shame and disappointment of being associated with you.
They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your true name, somewhere between India and Pakistan, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a "local power" is buried there.
Your structures will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a skeleton that is unmistakably a failed country.
This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.
