Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

That was disgusting. Not only for the fact that he spent about thirty seconds pretending to grieve with the parents before old-man-yelling about the lobbies, the lobbies, when in God's name the lobbies, but he also used that thirty seconds of "commiserating" to be Creepy Joe. I love the "appeal to the AWB" arguments with how great it was for reducing mass casualty violence. Columbine is the prototypical mass shooting and it happened during the AWB with AWB compliant guns excepting the pre ban Tec-9 which was illegally acquired.

Plus the AWB was complete bullshit. It was an agreement to study what effect banning "assault weapons" would have on shootings/mass shooting, the deal was the law was supposed to sunset after 10 years. The study showed that banning "assault weapons" did jackshit to stop the number of mass shootings, or the number of people getting killed by guns, and the data since has proven that out since rifles make up a small percent of guns used in mass shootings. The FBI's definition of a "mass killings" is three or more people dead. The FBI measures "active shooter incidents," which covers basically any event in which a person takes a gun and tries to kill people in a populated area for non-gang/drug-related reasons. There are surprisingly few FBI-tallied active shooter incidents that also qualified as mass killings -- it was 12 last year and five the year before that.

So if we are looking for some sort of long term solution, there aren't any. Gun control won't work, because for one thing the goal of gun control isn't to prevent school shootings. It's to disarm the populace so they are easier to control. School shooting and murder sprees will still happen, laws or no laws. The issue driving this is a rising tide of nihilism in our society and there are no easy fixes for that.

Short term solution? Have a pair of parents with their rifles on duty every day. Would make it hard to shoot up the school then, especially since the parents would be pretty motivated to fight back. That would actually accomplish something. Which is why it will never be implemented.

I don't understand, unless you're saying that black market guns would be so prevelant in the US that it wouldn't matter if they were officially restricted.
