Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

Looking through that list you see that a large majority of them only get 0-3 deaths and maybe a dozen injured at worst. As such those stories just aren't that exciting since they're only a little more than regular shootings that happen everyday in the US. With just how much the media has available to report on only shootings where deaths and injured start breaking double digits and/or a particularly vulnerable or notable populations are targeted is when headlines start getting made.

Three deaths is all that are needed for a shooting to qualify as a mass shooting.

That I recall the only mass knifing incident in the UK was the one from 2017 where 6-10 people were killed.
Since 2017 how many random mass shootings have occurred on the US for comparison?

Yeah this has been my experience as well. The big schools in the shitty neighborhoods have metal detectors. I went to a nice private school in a nice neighborhood and we did not have metal detectors or armed police... because we didn't have a gang problem. But i'm sure the other dude was probably right that there are some schools that probably could use those things and don't have the money.

I don't think money is the problem. Schools have been given grants from the federal and state levels since forever. They just waste the money on garbage or the administrators outright steal it.

It's an elementary school. There's not a lot of violence that happens with children that you would need armed guards for typically. I can't tell if you're suggesting that in your country that grade schools are heavily protected or that you're just projecting what you think America should be like.

Nah, it was a legit question i had, school shootings may not be the weekly event foreign media shows it as, but they become breaking news internationaly, carry heavy concerns and revive long-lived debates in their aftermath; gun control, background checks, etc.

Besides, true, it's an elementary school, 9yo kids aren't engaging in knife fights, but they're still better under a certain level of protection than just some officers with batons, something else to i want to say is that, i believe the issue behind this is that there's just too many fucking crazies out there looking for a quick thrill before they either shoot themselves, the police kill them or they rot in jail for their whole life, and these crazies will get a hold of a gun if they really want to, if they can't get one legally they'll just purchase it ilegally or steal it from a relative/friend.
