Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

Traffic laws and gun laws are such an inapposite comparison that the objections overwhelm any point that might be made. Road rules apply to public roadways, they don't limit what you can own or what you can do on private property. They aren't changed on a whim by regulators, making countless people into criminals overnight and forcing them to destroy or surrender their property. They're typically handled in traffic court and result in minor fines; traffic courts don't make people into felons for not noticing a sign, not knowing how much of a business's revenue comes from alcohol sales, going onto public land that's owned by the wrong agency (e.g. Army Corps of Engineers vs. National Park Service), failing to know when they are 1000 feet from a school, driving through New Jersey, or transiting through a New York airport. You might get a ticket for window tint or colored lights, but you won't be convicted of a felony if the state doesn't like your car's cosmetic features or they think the controls are too easy to operate. You don't have to get permission from a Federal agency and pay a $200 tax to install a muffler and make your car quieter, you won't go to prison if you build your own, and you won't go to prison if you have a muffler for a toy. Traffic courts won't take away your driver's license for life if you are convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence or a felony. You might get ticketed for driving an unsafe vehicle if you make an illegal modification to your car, but the FBI won't shoot your wife. America's gun laws are Byzantine and Draconian and I don't think 99% of them make me any safer.

And enforcement of traffic laws is very lax; I had an anecdote to that effect, one that almost ended with me dead on the street as bored cops watched from the comfort of their cruiser, but KF is not my blog. These laws are mostly used to raise revenue for municipalities and as an excuse to pull drivers over and talk them into consensual searches.


Full on libertarians are in favor of a little bit of government, just enough to defend the borders and enforce contracts. You might be thinking of full on anarchists.

I feel like this is getting away from what I was talking about. My point is public safety can and is legislated, road laws were what came to mind in 2 seconds. Public drunkenness is a crime here, but cops wait outside pubs to revenue raise. But it's also used against me when I fall asleep in the gutter on a busy road. I'm deliberately trying not to suggest any laws or go into specifics because it's a minefield but there has to be a way to tackle mass-shootings in America that isn't 'take everyone's guns' or 'give everyone guns'. Every single day you can find a video of an American cop shooting some homeless dude or confused grandma with a breadknife and that's seen as acceptable or righteous from anyone right of Bernie Sanders.
