Jumping off of this, from personal experience since they develop slower I wouldn't really consider even your average high functioning autistic person to be a full adult until they're farther in their 20s than your average young adult. They may be intelligent enough for university/jobs, but their social and emotional intelligence is about that of a young teenager still and it is obvious enough to tell in most which unfortunately does make "legal" autistic people a target for predators since even a 20 year old autistic person can act about 15.
