Someone on another thread posted something that reminded me of the artist Winston Rowntree, of Subnormality and Cracked.com fame.
This lead me to falling down the rabbit hole of revisiting some of his early Cracked articles and the irony is killing me, this is absolutely some "can you believe this shit?" stuff I just have to share.
Frist we have this article https://web.archive.org/web/2022032...ses-to-sexism-that-just-make-everything-worse
The incredible irony reading and looking at the illustrations in this late 2013 article today literally made me feel dizzy, first off he illustrates that simply reversing the roles of white men "at the top of the ladder" and replacing them with black lesbians is what we should not do, guess what society did? Literally exactly that, one set of "priviledge" was simply swapped for another.
The section about comic books is staggeringly ironic given what happened with comics in the years since, his point is that the media focuses on a very specific type of comic book, superheroes, and asking why there's so little female representation (at the time) and ignoring the wider comic industry where you'd find a lot more female creators, ending with the quote "but it's indicative of the greater trend that the media are, like Dexter, so often the cause of the problems they're investigating."
GEE, YA FUCKING THINK THAT MIGHT BE THE CASE!?
Hearing a left leaning person say that and even referencing CNN in it's illustration, when now the left just bluntly says "shut the fuck up and accept whatever CNN says" is just fucking bugnuts insanely ironic.
Then we have this article https://web.archive.org/web/2014013...age&utm_campaign=new+article&wa_ibsrc=fanpage
But the only real relevant part is the one referencing Star Wars, connecting it with punk rock, which is a pretty soyed out take, even for 2013, but then we have this quote referring to pop culture things like Star Wars.
It's incredibly distressing to look back at 2013 and remember a time when even a left wing dude like Rowntree, who was one of the first I remember seeing really sperg out about sexism back in the day, still had some good points to make, as opposed to being a complete, soy infused retarded idiot like your average leftist today, I've not followed Rowntree for years and I can only assume he succumbed to the same brainrot that literally everyone who couldn't deal with anything other than "left=good, right=bad" did, but it's nice to remember when a guy like him WASN'T yet a total retard.
It's no surprise that as society decided to declare war on things like sexism, the most retarded takes are what won out, because most people are retarded, this is why it was a mistake to go down that path in the first place, some things are truly better left well enough alone, but hindsight is 20/20, can we really blame people for wanting to try to make the world a better place from the vantage point of a decade ago? But ten years later all it did was make everything exponentially worse.
Just... fuck, you know what I mean? The undeniable decline of everything from 2013-2022 is really too much to take, what the fuck went wrong? Why did the more levelheaded takes not win? Are people really just that retarded?
If anyone else has discovered any shit from the early 2010s that is now knock you on the ass levels of ironic in the 2020s, this is the thread to share and discuss.

Wowsers, read this quote and think about what stuff like Star Wars and Marvel is today, to say nothing of Woke as a whole, "name me one good cult" indeed. This is when you remove critical thinking from the equation. To some degree everyone is powerless to resist the innate human love for opinions that reflect our own, and we all latch on to some stupid shit when we're young. The key is to not take it too far and one day look up to find yourself reveling in an echo chamber of utter shite just because doubling down was easier than questioning your life choices. At some point it stops being entertainment and starts being a cult, literally, and if you can name one good cult (that isn't led by Ian Astbury), then be my guest.
