The kids who grew up with social media practice about as much infosec as their boomer grandparents. Apparently only those who grew up in web 1.0 learnt the value of not attaching your virtual shit to your actual identity.
A lot of them can be far less privacy minded, with every silly thought on social media.

Went to see if there was a "newest users" list and found this.

This explains a lot.

It's weird when you talk to someone you know from online over a voice program and they ask what your name is because they use their real name openly. Just makes me feel like I'm talking to some kind of weird pervert.

Yes, this and they've been largely sheltered from cyber bullying and having people challenge them. Most internet communities are just ban happy hugboxes now with almost as many hall monitors as regular users. You pretty much just have to let the faggoty kindness take over or not participate at all.

Honestly I understand why you are closing registration. I lurked for a few years before I finally decided to register so I could comment on the 'what did you cook recently' thread and share what I'm cooking. Stupid reason to join I guess.
That's precious. After a very long time lurking I jouned the farms just to laugh at Brianna Wu being a failure at life and to say that SecretGamerGrrl is fat and nobody would have sex with him.
Lol, now I'm picturing some ancient cavemen or jungle-dwellers seeking out some nearby sperg shitposting on their drums.
Shitposting is a time honored tradition dating back to our ancestors. You might be interested some of the graffiti uncovered in the ruins of Pompeii.
My 4 main gripes with the current wave of new users and some part of the userbase are:

-Some of them only go to 1-2 thread or only a subforum. The site is huge, you should not be only in your hugbox.
That's not a problem by itself in my view. People are naturally drawn to threads and content that interests them and won't usually seek out different things unless given a reason. It's not as if most threads are hugboxes, if you act retarded the other posters will react to you accordingly.

Although I encourage people to visit different parts of the farms at times. You might find a previously unknown thread or board that piques your interest once in a while.

You joined a website for autists and their favorite tard watching threads, not a major battle in a prolonged conflict friendo.

There is an old joke about reading Playboy magazine just for the articles. Do you think anyone uses A&N just to read articles? Part of the site is to laugh at retards, Part is for arguing with retards. Pick your poison.

Restrict posting from all new accounts for a month to a special subforum where they can concentrate on improving themselves. Shitposting macht frei.
They have to be "adopted" by current users (or some subset thereof) like an orphanage or something. I'm not sure what the current registration rate is, but bring them in at something like half or a quarter that rate.

I've learned and enjoyed a lot of things on this site by branching out in just that way. Even met a few people with similar issues or views that have helped me feel less isolated. Mind this is KF not a therapy board or what have you but the point is learning new things can be a positive. Also doesn't hurt to stay in places you want to.

Has a limited post count been considered for newer users? If its not overly difficult to implement it could more or less force people to be choosy about what they say early on. That's a small part of what the reactions are for to cut down 'I agree' or other low value posts.
