The he switched tactics and went around the internet posting that I was gay.View attachment 3334173
I'm cracking up
First that Darrick's most cunning plot to discredit this dude was calling him gay, and second that this dude cared.
Maybe it was a mistake taking Christianity out of the classroom and replacing it with progressivism, Marxism, moral relativism, along with bizarre gender ideology and sexual education in elementary and middle schools?
Yeah, taking Christianity from schools was a mistake.Just for some context for those curious:
This actually doesn't surprise me all that much that he steals verbatim from another source. You guys mentioned his stealing from wikipedia but seriously, look at this archived blog that was in the OP. That's several pages that were verbatim just from the article the site has on Cthulhu. I've never seen that much blatant theft, and this piece of shit has the gall to act the wounded party. So, I'm skimming over his (pirated, natch) Cha'alt book, and it's really impossible to overstate just how painfully shitty it is. And I say this not because I think Darrick's a dork. There are plenty of dorks, or people whose politics I don't share, who make great RPG stuff. But Darrick does not.
First off, the sheer number of pop-culture references is obnoxious, for a few reasons. One, it's just lazy. He's not even obliquely referencing things in most cases, just using stupid naming conventions along the lines of Sta'ar Wa'ars. Two, these references are often the focus of an encounter or room, which begs the question: how much of this shit is actually "original", or really written by Darrick? Three, while many of these call-backs are core parts of encounters, for players to interact with, just as many exist only for flavor text, so, why not just write something original? There is very little that distinguishes Cha'alt from an afternoon of Darrick channel surfing while he's baked, eating cold Beanee Weenie from the can. Just a never-ending barrage of, "Hey, man, remember this?" that gets old real quick.
There are a lot of random tables, which can be great, but many of them are small lists, rather than d20 or larger. It feels half-assed. There is one random table with 69 possible results, and rather than map these to a d100 roll, Darrick has lazily just left it to the reader to deal with. Easy enough to solve, but lazy nonetheless.
It's also obvious that Anomalous Subsurface Environment, which Darrick has obviously read and admired, was a pretty big "influence" on Cha'alt. I almost feel bad basically calling Darrick a plagiarist, but then... *spreads arms wide and looks around*...

I'm sure some of this can be put down to common influences. Both dungeons were obviously inspired by stuff like Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, so I haven't bothered talking about the laser guns and whatnot common to both. But it's kind of hard to ignore these similarities given that Darrick has admitted to being influenced by ASE, and also that 80 percent or more of Darrick's stuff is something he saw somewhere else. I've seen references to Dune, Rick and Morty, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and Kids In The Hall, and I'm not even reading this, just flipping through. And though Venger's interest in Lovecraft predates ASE, it's still a bit of a coincidence that ASE has a cult of Nyarlathotep, another of Lovecraft's creations, just as Cha'alt has K’tulu cultists. Cha'alt is centered around a gaint black pyramid, while ASE has 10' tall black pyramids in every temple of The Cult of Science. Again, some of this could be coincidence, sure, but why would you give Darrick "Xerox" Dishaw the benfit of the doubt, after seeing what he's taken from so many other sources?
I should point out that though there are pop culture references in ASE, they are but a few, and they are cryptic (a statue of an unnamed guitarist in a schoolboy's uniform, for example). Whereas Cha'alt is literally wallpapered with them, and they're blatantly obvious.
Darrick really should credit all of the writers of Cha'alt, but that would double the size of his already way too expensive book, so...This actually doesn't surprise me all that much that he steals verbatim from another source. So him stealing so much from Anomalous Subsurface Environment? Not shocking. The fact he stole so fucking much of it does, but him then trying to make money off of it is amazing.
I noticed ASE has dinosaurs and radiation throughout. So does Cha'alt. God damn, Darrick.
Fair point.TBF Dinosaurs and radiation are rotten through late 70s/early 80s scifi-fantasy.
So, did he also pay the insurance on that thing and does he expect anyone to actually drive that in our current gas prices? (I.E North America)Fair point.
Say, it looks like Darrick is getting desperate to bring people to Wanker Con...

Though I'm pretty sure he's just goofing around. Besides, wouldn't it be more appropriate to give away one of those polka-dot clown cars in the back? Really, though, if it is a fakey, this is just perfect for Darrick, because offering up other people's stuff is his whole shtick!
This has all the same energy of those idiots who rent lambos to pretend they aren't huge financial failures who leech off of other sources or by scamming people.Fair point.

He's in Cream'Cheese'American'InvaderZim, where else?Judging by the bits of signs, he's in the washroom hall of a cave themed escape room or something similar.
