I think the lolcow salon and internet famous sections are particularly bad and unfortunately for me those are the ones I read the most. They're full of zoomers who I'm assuming came over here from someplace like twitter or PULL and refuse to assimilate and after they take personal offense to a differing opinion, they do not let it go and will ruin the thread with endless sperging. This leads to others like them to rate them positively so they keep going due to the positive reinforcement which is what zoomers crave. I'm not sure why this doesn't lead to bans?

The influx of shitty users are directly from Null’s streams and I refuse to believe otherwise.
100% this. How do you think stuff like the weeb wars subforum came about?

It's a double edged sword tho, because without Null's forays into the streaming community, the Ralph saga would not have played out as it has.

If you want a perfect example of this go look at the uvalde shooter thread. Ill be first to say I was a part of the problem in that thread by the end of it all

Only problem with invites is, I would never want to admit to anyone that I use this place. I imagine a lot of other people might feel the same way. If we go invite only, we may never have another new user.

... actually, carry on.
Honestly, i wouldn't mind if it went private only.
It seems like we've hit that tipping point that all websites inevitably go through, where they grow so large so quickly that the original users are just washed away by an ever-increasing tide of newfags.
Of course, the only problem with going private is that your userbase will dwindle and turn into a hugbox until eventually nobody uses it anymore. I don't know which is worse, but i know i hate seeing site culture being lost like that.

I've seen some people registering with their real names on here lately, like it's a fucking LinkedIn. Do the invited users not go through the registration page that clearly states what kind of information will be gone after if they decide to make an account?
I remember back in the early 2000s no one used their real name online and people properly kept their personal information private then Myspace and Facebook ruined everything. Now everyone loses their mind if you tell them that you don't use social media.

Even back then, a lot of people signed up with a handle.
Everyone's parents were constantly reminding you not to tell anyone anything, probably due to constant news stories about online predators in chatrooms and whatnot.

So everyone assumed by default that whoever you were talking to would try to fuck you in the ass if you told them your name.
I couldn't even tell you how many people i've been internet fwiends with over the years who i know absolutely nothing about, and who know nothing about me.

And then you have today's kids, where the first thing they do is upload their face to facebook, put their bio up on twitter, then start streaming from their bedroom on instagram.
If i did any of that when i was a kid, i'm pretty sure my parents would have beaten me to death and set my computer on fire.

The new users have been dumb for at least 2 years. I've noticed a lot of hurt feelings if someone doesn't agree with them and people getting mad about how their posts are rated. Some users have taken things I've said about lolcows personally like the time I said something about a cow's teeth.
I joined just before Chris fucked his mom. I've been neg-rated a few times, but after the sperg influx in July 2021, I learned very quickly about the site's culture. Even now I still post retarded shit, but I think forcing people to lurk is a good idea. Lurking usually makes retarded posts less likely, but newfags are still newfags, and they post retarded shit sometimes.
Usually not to this extent, though.

I assumed everyone lurked on sites before joining or posting if it's one of the ones that force you to join before you can see anything. Maybe zoomers are different.

Maybe new accounts shouldn't have posting privileges for a week so they're forced to lurk.

I think the real issue is zoomers are used to an internet culture where the other party will face consequences for hurting their feelings even if they're the ones acting like a retard and maybe they're just not familiar with how forums work. I don't think forums as a medium are popular anymore.

I hadn't noticed the KF userbase had gotten worse until the Featured Content section was added. Had an inkling it'd go to shit after the Christchurch shooting had a significant impact on the culture on the site. I see a lot of post-2019 dates in here complaining about zoomers shitting up specific subforums, but I believe that's just how KF has always been. Every thread on an individual has its unique subculture within KF, and honestly, even old users could do with a bit of lurking in every thread. Thinking that you've been around here long enough, and therefore you're "good enough" to post, is bullshit. Seeing every featured thread immediately go to shit because frontpage thread newfags refuse to lurk destroys proper thread activity for at least a week.
