I liked the charm of mr bean, but not to the point where my perception of atkinson is based around it. It'd be nice to see him play witty, cynical roles again; maybe as Q in a james bond parody

Johnny English made older and younger audiences want to see Mr. Bean again, even while the Johnny English movies were a James Bond parody. If anything, I think he made them more relevant the same way how John Cleese made Monty Python jokes more realistic in current day.
Honestly Johnny English was more worthwhile to me than the last 20 years of Bond movies which feel like they're spinning their wheels.

Dude's practically a national treasure and he lives the life he wants. I think he's doing just fine.

I've seen a few interviews with Rowan Atkinson and I get the impression that acting was just a hobby for him that turned into a career, rather than something he was really passionate about. It's fun for him and he enjoys it, so he does it, but he's not trying to be the best actor or most awarded actor, which is why I think he always stuck to light-hearted stuff.

Aren't those Johnny English films, mostly ignored in North America (not so sure about England), ridiculously popular in less obvious overseas markets like Malaysia?
