I just want to add on the UK case front, The Sun isn't exactly considered a reputable tabloid in comparison to others. Even the daily mail is considered better. It's best known for having it's "page 3 girls" where the first thing you see (page 1 being the front cover) is a woman in a bathing suit doing some sexy pose for the readers. Idk if they still print it, there was some backlash about it a few years back from people saying it was distasteful and sexualising women is bad.

Murdoch's other paper here, news of the world, no longer prints because of exposed phone hacking and police bribery (which I can't link rn cause phonefag).

News media of all stripes have been lying through their teeth for over 10 years now. If you think any news source isn't compromised, it's because it's tailored to you being the audience and your preconceived notions being reaffirmed. Why do they continue? Because it affects people's opinions, because it moves the needle. It may not place the needle where they want it, but they'll still move it and that's what makes them worth the money.

But more likely it's as old as news is. Even Benjamin Franklin said "Never argue with a man who buys ink by the barrel."
