But then you'd need some machine to make sure you and the person on the I.D. are the same person, and I'm not even sure that would work all that well depending on the kind of I.D. needed and the particular country's renewal requirements; Some people simply no longer look like their I.D. because of how old it is, and short of that there's a whole lot of stories about makeup, black eyes and stuff confusing face recognition softwares.

The examples given are certainly not "elderly" but they do exist outside celebrity spheres, they're just very rare and didn't used to be found outside of gay circles or just that weird old dude in town that's obviously a tranny but keeps to himself because trans people just weren't that common back in the day.
