I think this is a reference to Phil's convenient alcoholism that only pops up whenever he has to face the consequences of his actions. In his last react he claims he blacked out and talked mad shit to Mike Watson and had to cry in the street and plead that he was an alcoholic to avoid getting beaten up.

I love how he's trying to make it sound like they would say this completely unprovoked. It's far more likely that people ask them if they'd spoke to "Phil" recently and they'd respond with that to stop having to be asked.

Besides how the flying fuck would he know? He doesn't speak to anyone he doesn't exchange money with and the only people back in CT he knew were them and his parents. So who could've told him this to know how the interactions happened.
