imo suggestions about banning people or punitive measures won't change discourse. the more nefarious and effective way to police people is with incentives. if you look at reddit, yeah they are ban happy but order is mostly established with updoots and good boy stickers. I think a lot of ppl who post online are usually lonely and are seeking validation.

reddit works that way because it is built around the upvote mechanics. more upvotes literally make a post more visible, while downvoted posts get auto-hidden so people don't even see them anymore. also, the way reddit threads with their branching comment tree structures work is fundamentally different from the chronologically ordered linear threads we have in a forum like this.

As has been talked to death earlier: it's easy to have a happy hugbox with a cohesive community. What's ideal is the latter without the former.
A lot of these people are hated just because they have left wing views. It's easier to ban them, sure. But now you're left with a hugbox.
What's better is that you give the minority view some leniency and the people who just can't stand to have the majority view questioned be swept away.

this is actually a genuinely good idea. i don't give a shit about OP's opinion on the article before i open the fucking thread. it taints the thread because of OP's biases. then again, if the first post in the thread is the OP giving their opinion, it would probably do the same thing as adding your own little editorial shit to the thread title

A lot of the better submitters will add their own perspective as a little addendum at the bottom of the OP, separating it with a dashed line. I think that works pretty well too if a particular mod if stylistically autistic about double posts.
Just do something to make it clear it's their take on the article, not part of it, and after the text so as to not pre-bias the reader.

Honestly I think there should be less moderation, I would love it if it were normal to post fake articles, articles from joke sites, or articles from conspiracy theorists. If you want to allow lies and misinformation from one side if it's not too obvious it should be allowed in all forms.
