President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

I said the us supplying aid was prolonging it. you dumb fucking faggot.
Prolonging it by giving them the means to fight back and defend themselves? Yeah so you are essentially implying that by not submitting to Russia and accepting outside help that Ukraine is "prolonging" the conflict that Russia started. What are you even trying to say here, that Ukraine should just try to hold back Russia with their outdated 1970s soviet arsenal and not accept any outside help? The only side prolonging this conflict is the Russians who are continuing to invade sovereign Ukrainian territory that was recognized BY THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION in 1991, including Crimea and the Donbass. If all these ethnic russians in the Donbass were so concerned about Ukrainian rule they should probably move out of what is internationally recognized as sovereign Ukrainian territory and move to Russia instead, but oh wait that would mean that Russia would no longer have a justification to invade under the guise of "protecting russian speakers" so they can't do that!

"you're prolonging this rape by fighting against it, just give in and let the rapist rape you or else you'll just get hurt even more, all your injuries are your fault for not just laying down and submitting!"

some supreme gaslighting skills vatnigs have, too bad most people aren't dumb enough to fall for it
He's not a vatnig, apparently, he's a crayon eater, which makes his Russian simping even more bizarre.

No no no, you don't get to shift goalpost there bud. You compared the bullshit the us pulled in vietnam to a FUCKING BORDER CONFLICT.
The comparison is apt when it is stating the hypocrisy of using "They have a bigger military/budget/nation" as an argument that a nation should unconditionally surrender due to those conditions.
calling you fucking warmongering cunts, bloodthirsty cunts for prolonging that war.
The Russians are totally capable of ending this war by leaving. If they don't want to see their sons die they can order them to go back.
the US sticking their goddamn nose in AGAIN like they always do, getting some poor dumb bastards killed is objectively bullshit.
All the US is doing is helping a country invaded by a hostile nation. They even set demands that their aid is not used to attack Russia proper. Very reasonable and comparable to the USSR's actions in North Korea and North Vietnam.
Russia gets what they get
Yeah like Kyiv and Kharkiv, oh wait I guess they just sent their sons to eat lead for fun at those regions.
because the us send tons of money and weaponry to extend the conflict
Again, Russia has the means to end this conflict by ordering a withdraw to pre invasion lines.
What do you think would have happened if some of our enemies, say china dumped a few hundred billion into russia?
What if? What if The Russians can turn water into oil or invent magic? Dumb point. The Chinese already see the Russians as dead weight as we can see as they aren't allowing pay services like Unionpay to substitute western services.
I'm not the one comparing a border conflict to vietnam
It's very comparable but you're stupid and unable to consider things might not being so great for Russia so you insist everything is going according to Moscow's plans. Stop living vicariously through Russia. You would be just as miserable and unsuccessful in Putin's Empire than your current station. You're just as dumb as the people I met that assured me one day the Afghans would wake up and embrace democracy and western values.

"Just stop providing military help" is a suggestion to turn this conflict from a war to a bloody insurgency, dragging this conflict into decades.

So much for them being peace doves.
It's also an invitation to destabilize a country and let the remaining citizens who don't flee fall victim to the same reprobates that jerk off to the "Le liberators" propaganda cartoon. Reminds me a lot of the gun grabbers that tell us that we don't need guns because the property they want to steal isn't worth ending a life over.

Their goals were:

Denazify Ukraine and install a friendly regime: Failed

Secure the Donbas region permanently as a friendly client state: still not secure since the war is still anyone's game.
Uhhh.......sure.

I'm also sure that Kiyvbros and their reddit gang are two weeks away from taking Moscow while were at it as well. Slava Ukraine to you fellow freedom fighter!

That particular crayon eater was very upset about me fleeing the country prior to the war. Stopping military help and destabilizing the country further would actually make my choice even more justified, so I guess he's just looking out for me and others like me? In his own weird way. :D

Don't forget tankies would be assuring us North Vietnam is losing because they asked China and the Warsaw pact for aid and asking for military aid=losing according to the retards.
Saying you're winning and asking for non-stop aid and saying that aid wasn't enough and lying about every little thing is retarded.
Kind of a bad take anyway as all of our aid, which amounted to more than we'll ever give Ukraine, resulted in what exactly? The South Vietnamese leader wasn't even a good guy, he was just our guy.

Who said anything about peace, and you really shouldn't comment when you ran like the cowardly faggot you are. You talking about having to set among the children adn the infirm and feeling like a piece of shit was the only thing you have said that will be remembered.

KYIV, June 5 (Reuters) - Several explosions took place early on Sunday in Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
"Several explosions in Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of the capital," Klitschko wrote on the Telegram messaging app. "Services are already working on site. More detailed information - later."
A Reuters witness saw smoke in the city after the explosions.
Air raid sirens had gone off earlier across much of Ukraine, including in the Kyiv region.

Who said anything about peace, and you really shouldn't comment when you ran like the cowardly faggot you are. You talking about having to set among the children adn the infirm and feeling like a piece of shit was the only thing you have said that will be remembered.
Keep seething, buddy.

I don't recall saying the South Vietnam president was a good guy. The Ukrainians or any of their supporters aren't going to say "Guys we're losing but please send aid anyway". My statement wasn't regarding the US military in aid in South Vietnam, but Warsaw Pact/PRC aid to the North. The South Vietnam government was not popular while the Ukrainians are set on not becoming a thrall to the Russians and prefer a independent Ukraine over life in a Russian client state. You're not making sense.

wasn't upset about it, coward, just keep point it out, i want everyone to remember you ran like a bitch and cried that others weren't helping more. you couldn't even do anything but run away, yet you want to talk tough and act like you are anything but what you are.

Was I seething when i reached out you in a dm to see if you and your extended family were okay?

Very reasonable and comparable to the USSR's actions in North Korea and North Vietnam.
It wasn't until the mass declassifications of 1991 that Russia finally admitted that Soviet pilots flying out of Soviet bases had been shooting down Americans in the skies over Korea. The USA had legitimate casus belli against the USSR and we let it slide in the name of keeping the war localized to Korea.

Nobody is acting tough about it, you're projecting because you're a chickenhawk. When are you enlisting to give blood for the conquest of Ukraine ivan?

I hate pulling this fucking card, i fucking detest it, but you screaming and shitting your pants forced me too. I served my hitch, I bled for my country, have you?

I'm saying your allegory sucks and should feel bad, just using the other side as reference. In any case Vietnam isn't ever going to be a perfect representation of the invasion of Ukraine so such comparisons are moot, you can really say anything for either side using Vietnam and Ukraine.

For me it's the lies about how well they're doing that drive me nuts, all while asking for absurdly generous aid that is 1 step shy of boots on the ground from western powers. You're either killing over 9000 Russian tanks a day and shooting down every plane while capturing 100k Russian POWs and don't need billions in aid, new tanks, new planes, and various countries' near-god-tier intelligence, or you're fighting a formidable foe who is marching on your soil and you need everything you can get to stop them and are not ashamed to ask.
You don't get it both ways.

We're starting to see that those lies did nothing but maybe betray their own troops.

Nobody is acting tough about it, you're projecting because you're a chickenhawk. When are you enlisting to give blood for the conquest of Ukraine ivan?

Your avatar is apt. Feathers = ruffled. Jimmies = rustled.

Then why the schizophrenic aggression before and after? Conversely, if you don't care - why ask? I don't care about some rando not caring and/or "pointing out" my decision since I've made it knowing full well its potential consequences.

you've been saying stupid shit, i like pointing out stupid shit. Doesn't mean i hate you or want you or your family to die in some shithole because it's convenient for some rich fucks half a globe away. And how the fuck is my perceived aggression schizo? This shit is gonna end with stacks and stacks of people dead that didn't ask for this. Everyone wants to scream and shout about russia starting it, and they did, but the didn't do it unprovoked. Didn't the kikelet funny man run on trying to ease up on the aggression with russia? My biggest issue is everyone seems to want to lay 100 percent of this shit on putin, and that's just not the case, it never is. Tons of you people have been going out of your way to demonize and refer to the russians as some sort of subhuman nigger or something. not just the ones fighting, or conscripted into fighting. People have been going out of their way to shit all over the russian people like they asked for this. Referring to people as subhuman has some real genocide vibes.
