One thing I do wish more of the so called old hats would wake up and see is that those two things are getting less and less mutually exclusive. Actually I'd say they're no longer mutually exclusive. I'm thinking that Monday will reveal just how livid Roberts is about the leak, and more importantly how infuriated he is at the tacit endorsement of the Justice harassment by the Biden administration.

My theory is different than that of Gehenna's on this one: Roberts is rather infamous for his do-nothing stance on basically everything, but I don't think that the powers that be truly understand how much they're forcing his hand. The Roe leak alone, and Roberts' response to it, may as well fundamentally be a declaration to the Supremes of "you'll do what we want, and you'll fucking like it, or we'll use intimidation to get our way."

Blanket banning of politics is a bad idea on the pretense that some cows are inherently political. Ralph, Fuentes, Jacob Wohl, Brianna Wu, Keffels, MovieBob, Vaush and a lot more are doing political shit or speaking on political topics. If you do a blanket ban, you risk getting hammered if you comment on certain things being disgusting regarding their politics and it opens Pandora's box. It could become Resetera teir very quick, where certain phrases and opinions are verboten. It would be on both sides, but it would stifle conversation.

While I'm obviously coming at it from a slightly different direction, I agree with the core of this. The forum at large always tends toward a particular brand of left wing thought that is heavily biased toward the preoccupations of the sort of people who can afford to spend all their spare time on that forum. The containment zone also tends to become a monoculture pretty fast, either an extreme right-wing spergatory that eventually gets shut down, or a sort of petting zoo, where the forum regulars rock up to "own the nazi chuds" every so often, safe in the knowledge that the contained aren't going to be able to argue back without eating bans and other punishments. It creates a mentally corrosive superiority complex amongst the regulars, who lose the ability to effectively engage with opposition arguments and turn into the sort of lazy, screeching, slacktivist losers that populate Antifa, or moderate twitter, or run Joe Biden's press office. What I'm saying is, letting a forum "fall" to the left, as you put it, just leads to navel-gazing and intellectual laziness amongst the left who remain. That's a losing proposition in the long term, in terms of intellectual ability; look at the state of academia today, for example.

I said my piece in the despot thread of what I think should be done with A&H. I think Null has a fundamental misunderstanding of what this part of his site is and wants it to be something it cannot ever be. This section is a containment zone for all the autism that comes from the devisiveness of politics. It's here to save the rest of the site. If you remove it, all of the tism spreads elsewhere. Because this site was build on making fun of Chris, Null, and other who have been here longer than I, wish for it to be that old site where you laughed at stupid people online and everyone would occasionally agree about the news of the day. That just isn't the world we live in anymore. And anything that isn't strictly 'right' leaning will sway 'left'.. right in this case meaning uncensored speech.

It's Null's decision. He can do w/e he wants with it. The left doesn't care about intellectual laziness; all they care about is shutting up the right as they think that means the right doesn't exist. What I think we both might agree on is that the people shitting up threads just to shit them up should be equally banned, but that would hit some old-timers that have too many connections.

I know Null has to see it, and he thinks that purging AnH will cut that Gordian knot. I personally disagree but I don't have a perfect solution nor do I run this forum so any bitching I do won't really solve the issue

I'mi honestly surprised the TDS thread has survived in the cults section this long. A&H is the evil right-wing cesspit. The rest of the site is "apolitical". Which means you either need to not take a politically charged stance, or you need to conform to leftist orthodoxy because it's "normal". If you don't, you're "bringing politics in".

At the same time it seems to me like the biggest actual headaches aren't actually things like stickers or /pol/ shit, or anything to do with A&H. I guess there was the Seig fedposting event, but it was a minor lolcow thread about Byuu (followed by him seemingly using it as an excuse to fake his death) that led to widespread media attention about the site. That in turn unexpectedly snowballed into months of troon DDOS attacks and the site being made a pariah that nobody would do business with, not /pol/ shit. Before that it was hosting the Christchurch shooting video while multiple governments and their media machines insisted it be removed, a hill that Null himself seemed eager and willing to die upon. He's also constantly being legally threatened for other minor shit, like the actual literal Russian government badgering him to remove that HO-HO-HOLOCAUST meme, so it seems weird that he's so worried about this place when the site seems to be under constant siege due to its nature

I also realize I don't have to mod this place so I guess there's a lot of bullshit I don't see behind the scenes, but it's clear to me that the people who flock to the thunderdome aren't gonna shut up and become good little neoliberals if it gets razed. They're gonna migrate to any other political thread they can find- lolcows like Wu or MovieBlob for example- and while the mods are busy playing wack-a-mole suppressing politics there another existential threat will emerge.
