ARGs are so dumb but I genuinely enjoy listening/watching people explaining ARGs

Makes sense as to why MatPat and NM videos are way more popular than the media they cover. I legitimately think that people just can't watch the original footage because their senses aren't overloaded every 10 seconds, which is easy to do in an explanation video where a guy is constantly talking and pointing to you about things and what they mean.

Not my cup of tea but it is what generates views, so...

While ARGS can be fun, I kind of miss self-contained horror videos and channels that devote themselves to a particular aesthetic (overused word, I know) of horror without going all ARG. Sometimes it becomes so much about the sooper seckret puzzle hidden in one frame of static that the artistry is lost.

I'm a couple minutes into the new Mandela Catalog video and the voice acting continues to be the weakest part. With how much effort the dude puts into making parts look like VHS, at times he sure doesnt try to make voice recordings sound like it. The policeman speech part just sounds like he paid some dude on fiver to make a somber speech in his bedroom then put it to the video without making it match the video. Its just jarring.

This is also a big weakness in a lot of analog horrors, imo. The creator puts all this effort into getting the "analog feel", but then the voice actors are either literally teens or have no experience in professional voice acting and make all the dialogue sound forced and cheesey like a B movie horror. It ruins the entire mood and, tbh, breaks the immersion since no one sounds natural or like professional narrators for this apparent training video or such.

Edit: I will say that the bible cartoons have been fantastic, and I think the alt-universe tech where captioning camcorder stills seems to be their way of texting is a neat idea.

Mutahar hasn't really covered horror stuff in a while, he used to do "deep web browsing" and "creepy gaming" but that isn't his thing anymore (haven't been a fan since he got an ARG-game I helped debug labelled a virus years ago).
Do you take podcast recommendations? I'm still malding over the fact that he deleted nearly all of his creepy gaming videos, but thankfully that there was some guy that archived nearly all of the episodes. It even has the very first episode where Muta had a shit mic lol

I don't see what's so great about the series. The Zoomers who're super into it clearly have never been freaked out by anything in their lives if this is the scariest thing they've ever seen.

Apparently the actual creator talked about how he knows he contributed to analog horror getting stale and he can't even watch his original videos anymore without cringing so I'll give the guy credit for not letting his success get to his head.

he also deleted a lot of his virus investigations videos, including the one for Remember.exe and it's sequel.
Thing is, they weren't viruses-just games made for a very specific community, basically "what if the original plan for BEN DROWNED's final arc happened".

Old Nightmind is surprisingly ok, I watched his everymanHYBRID videos and he did a great job covering them, so was his “Hey Kids” video IIRC.
He quickly went downhill after he inserted himself into that one ARG though, I believe it was the Jack Torrent one?
After that his ego blew up and now he’s pretty much insufferable

The exact same time I started to find him becoming more and more insufferable, his early stuff was good, and as others have echo'd I love listening to ARG explaination videos, mostly because I don't have to spend months becoming invested only to be let down by a shitty ending or none at all.

I learned of subliminals through the Josie and the Pussycats live action movie when I was like 8 and it scared the shit out of me. I definitely think it's a scary thing to think about but if you want to "become" autistic for whatever reason you probably already are.
