Conservation by buying land only works as long as people have faith in their government. As soon as that faith is lost, the billionaire/government will discover that their “nature preserve” isn’t one anymore. Absentee land ownership is meaningless; it’s the same as “buying” a star in one of those star registries.
In this case it was a group of people that heard about the initial push for a refuge back in 1999 or 2000 (which was defeated) and went "that sounds like a good idea." Basically it's a group of middle class people who said "we can trust the government."

I think I get your point but it wasn't a billionaire or the government but well intentioned people who became cats paws for larger forces.

People in Seattle are getting ballsy. Biden's approval rating here is worse than most of the blue utopias, but this isn't something you normally see.

I saw a dude with a straight-up toilet mounted to his trunk, with Biden's face mounted on the lid and "Let's Go Brandon" written on the seat, on the southern end of highway 9 today and was giggling the whole way home

You should check out what the Sierra Club does in the West Coast.

Plus, there's a big thing with the BLM goons taking property, then turning it over for strip mining, clearcuttting, and then development once the State sells it because it turns out it was a 'mistake' that there were plants/animals/insects designated as endangered on the property.

Another interesting thing is how the last 10-12 years invasive species have been treated as "endangered" by some state organizations. And it's always interesting that the inspectors just 'happen' to find the invasive species.

The federal definition of endangered species in the ESA actually includes invasive species, because the people who wrote it are retards. See, if a species invades an area, and then it's successfully beaten back, it becomes endangered in that area by definition. Of course those conservatives who bleat about "limited government" never touched the ESA during the six years they had a trifecta under Bush. Worthless faggots.

down here in the Freedom state of Florida we have open war against invasive pythons to the point it's almost that Simpsons

The woke left now has gone down the route of eliminating invasive species is “xenophobic.” I shit you not.

They also champion for lions and tigers to be let loose in rural America to “control the deer populations and to take back the niche of ice age predators!” because they can’t bare to see Bambi get shot.

You should get some King Cobras to eat them.
"But then you have king cobras!"
"No, then we'll get gorillas that will eat the king cobras!"
"Then you have gorillas!"
"No, then winter will set in and the gorillas will freeze to death."

This will be a slight bit off-topic but I just wanna muse a bit.

I am saddened that the Democrats have poisoned certain topics beyond recovery. My own pet one is climate and environmental issues.

It should not be a hard case to -conservatives- to -conserve- nature. There were so many avenues of argument that it beggers belief.

Conservation of nature: "We have such lovely natural beauty and splendour, perhaps we should help to maintain it more?"
Independence & Self/Community-Reliance: "Encourage recycling to reduce our reliance on foreign oils and products. Consider community composting and vegetable growing. Carpooling can help tie communities together."
Religion: "Did God not bequeath Earth to man and command him to rule it? And is not a part of rule the act of safeguarding?"

And I can keep going. These issues should in theory by bipartisan as fuck because unlike something like guns, or taxes, or almost anything else "Preserving Nature" has no real hard reason to be a political divide.

But they -made- it a political divide, went balls to the wall nuts on it, made apocolyptic predictions which never come true. and poisoned the very concept of the issue for generations.
You got to remember that its never been about actually protecting the environment. All these people pushing environmentalism are either trying to make big bank and or sociopaths trying to grab as much power as they can. I mean this is a entire industry, look at all the media, products, and other stuff that money is being pumped into. This shit keeps people employed, just think about all the jobs that come with business that are selling this BS. Not just scientist/experts/researchers, but armies of of people ranging from management to janitors that employed because of this. The environment is a business and it has one of the best marketing campaigns ever put together.

Whats that gasoline powered cars are destroying the environment and we need to replace it all with EV's? Good thing every auto manufacturer is starting to put out more and more electric models. Wait wouldn't that mean every vehicle on the road right now would need to eventually be sold off and every single driver would be forced to pay out the ass for a new vehicle? Huh well never mind that!
We need to get off oil/gas/coal power before its too late! I mean sure technically renewables are getting billions in funding while having the government put the screws to competition via regulations. That is just a coincidence, besides its for the greater good! Any suffering is for that greater good! And you want to be on the side of good right?

On the flip side some of them just want to take what powers they can away from the average person bit by bit. They fucking hate you, they want you living in a powerless thatch hut like the peasant you are. Do you honestly think your greta thunberg and billy gates or whoever are going to suffer for the cause? Fuck no they will be eating the finest cut of steak while sipping on the most robust wines straight from the nicest water sucking vineyards of California in a private plane while you are chewing on a rock hard maggot flavored nutrient block in your cement pod. The money helps, but seeing you suffer is the biggest benefit.

Should we be protecting the environment? Yea probably. Should this be a bi-partisan/not political opinion? Most definitely. Is there some kind of climate crisis and oh god the sky is going to light on fire any day now? Who fucking knows. Its all a storm of bullshit data and propaganda. They got so many people terrified (and bought into) this that not agreeing that we need to start superglueing everyone's assholes shut to keep methane out of the air makes you a alt-right mega-hitler conspiracy-theorist eco-terrorist.

To provide context to people that might not have super in-depth knowledge of physics, ballistics, design, or physiology:

5.56 mm when converted into imperial is roughly .22 inches, the same caliber as those super cheap rimfire rounds that you’d shoot at tin cans if you’ve ever been outside of a bughive. This is a varmint round. The 5.56 NATO and .223 Winchester, the parent cartridge of the aforementioned round, while not derived from the .22 long rifle is also based on a varmint round. Think coyotes, foxes, some types of wild boar. It’s just barely capable of putting down some deer. It’s designed to wound people, because 2 jarheads dragging a wounded comrade behind cover is 2 less people shooting back at you because they already know the poor fuck is already dead. There’s more to it than that, of course, but the point remains that anyone that tells you an AR-15 chambered in 5.56 is a uniquely dangerous weapon meant to vaporize you from the inside out is utterly full of shit.

30-06, which we used from like the 1880’s through the Korean War, would actually blow organs.
"Designed to wound" is bullshit fuddlore. 5.56 is much easier to control in full auto and you can carry much more ammo compared to larger calibers, the military didn't choose a round to only wound enemy combatants. There's also the probability of the bullet fragmenting inside the target, but thats its own can of beans.

This thread has some of the worst takes on gun stuff lmao.

There has been an instance of rural folk vs environmental conservationists taking place at least once thus far as I know of. In Pembroke, Illinois black farmers who fall behind on property taxes are having land scooped up by The Nature Conservancy. Sites held by the Conservancy have banned long-standing local traditions like hunting, picking wild fruit, horse riding but allowed things like cross-country skiing for some reason. Before the conservationists arrived none of these restrictions were in place and they are designed to stay forever even if ownership of the land changes hands.

All of this is quite ironic when you see this statement from the head of the Nature Conservancy regarding the 2020 election:

This sounds exactly like Enclosure. It has multiple definitions, but the one that matters here is the redistribution of previously common lands into large tenancies, owned by an imposed landlord, which removed the land from the commons and denied the people their previous rights within them. Hunting became something only certain people could do; the people living on the land became tenants and serfs. The other that matters is the further enclosure of lands into vast, private estates that were the sole preserve of the aristocracy, where not even farming took place in order to keep things "natural", so that there was always good hunting.

This is what is happening in the USA right now. Your land is being Enclosed at the behest of a new aristocracy, often in the name of preserving nature and the environment. I'd expect it to be followed by the development of parallel, "private" legal systems over that land that are granted wide latitude in how they conduct their affairs.

Not sure how accurate but this article claims (with sources) that the census undercounted Democrats and overcounted Republicans resulting in Democrats getting 6 extra congressional seats and unless challenged by the GOP, this will remain until 2030.

Designed to to wound was probably the wrong phrase. My point was it isn’t the masterwork of destruction the media portrays it as.

I share your sentiment in specific, and in general. One of my pet causes is justice/police reform/improvement. We have the best justice system in the world as it is, but we could do more in criminal, civil, and family court.

You can't bring it up at all, though, without the nerves rubbed raw by Defund the Police sending everyone into screaming fits.
The actual solution to police violence is to improve access to therapy and mental health care for police. Being a cop is one of the most stressful jobs imaginable because it isolates people from mainstream society and the only people they trust are other police, who also have strong taboos against acknowledging any weakness. It's a pressure cooker environment designed to drive people nuts.

People have tried to draw attention to this including Norm Stamper the former Seattle police chief and John Violanti, a former cop who became a doctor in order to treat police with psychological problems because they couldn't trust anyone but another cop to talk about their peoblems. There's no way progress can be made on this issue now because ACAB has poisoned the well so completely, so now police are stuck in their pressure cooker subculture with no escape.

This well-poisoning effect has been understood for some time, a sociologist named Gary Kleck wrote about this concerning gun rights. He found, from a study of pro- and anti-gun rights literature, that there was so much negativity and acrimony around the gun issue, mainly from anti-gun writers accusing gun owners of being psychotic, bloodthirsty and sexually warped, that it was impossible for the two sides to have a conversation and thus the issue would remain a permanent political dividing line.

Can’t wait to see the 24/7 courtroom cases of all these people who deliberately subverted democracy.

Biden is always for gun safety and gun control but don't preach in the case of his son Hunter.

President Biden is worried about firearms falling into the hands of criminals, like his son, Hunter. Hunter Biden filled out BATFE Form 4473 in October 2018 and purchased a .38 caliber revolver from a shop in Delaware. Hunter claimed he was not on drugs at the time of purchase, as it is illegal to sell a firearm to anyone “who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance.” Yet, in his memoir “Beautiful Things,” he admitted to smoking crack “every fifteen minutes” and that he even began to spend “a lot of time with thieves, addicts and con artists” who taught him how to cook crack cocaine.

Purchasing a gun illegally while under the influence is reckless, but the events that followed were worse. Hallie Biden, the widow to Beau Biden, feared for Hunter’s life as she thought he may harm himself. Hunter, who was legally married to his wife Kathleen at the time, was dating his fallen brother’s ex-wife. Morals aside, Hallie shortly found Hunter’s handgun in his truck and decided to dispose of it in a trash can across from Alexis I. du Pont High School.

One could only imagine the tragedy that could have unfolded if a teenager had found that gun. Hunter demanded that Hallie retrieve his illegal weapon, but when she went back to the school zone, the gun was nowhere to be found. The Delaware State Police, the United States Secret Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation quietly became involved. Politico noted that the store clerk did not want to cooperate with Secret Service as he knew they would cover for Hunter. The gun was later returned by a man who retrieved it from the trash can, allegedly.

The penalty for purchasing a gun while under the influence of a controlled substance is 10 years imprisonment. The penalty for lying on Form 4473 is up to five years imprisonment. Lying to an arms dealer “with respect to any fact material to the lawfulness of the sale” could result in an additional 10-year imprisonment. For Hallie’s part, throwing a gun in a bin 250 yards from a school violates numerous laws and is grounds for a lengthy sentence.

Joe Biden cannot control guns within his own family. He criticizes responsible gun ownership while allowing his troubled son to endanger the lives of others.

Has Joe Scarborough always looked like a lightbulb with hair?

Being a somewhat social liberal and definite fiscal conservative is a challenging place to be. Taking care of the environment, reduce/reuse/recycle (yeah I know recycling isn't what they claim it is but at the very least it gives me pause when I throw things away), judicial reform/police training and mental health, healthcare for the most vulnerable populations, child protection, affordable housing--these are all causes I fully believe in. However, throwing money at the problems, or worse, escalating and making money off said problems, infuriates me. There's a way to solve these issues, or at least mitigate them/make inroads but the Greenies/Leftists and Republicans don't want to do that. I'm also Libertarianesque in that I believe the less bureaucracy, the better.

Worse is when I try to talk to either side about these concerns. The left accuses me of larping because I believe in fiscal responsibility, the right says I'm a climate/lefty nutjob because I'm concerned about social issues. I'm none of those things--I'm a realist. But there's no place for people who can see both sides of an issue in today's society.
