On the topic of drag shows, it is possible to do child friendly and non sexual.

If you go to ladyboy show in Thailand, you're not going to see grotesque impersonations of women. You likely wouldn't even know the cast is men. It's very stylized, dramatic shows that tell stories and sing traditional Thai songs. It's a huge expensive production worthy of TV.

Personally i wouldn't mind taking a kid to that because it's not about sex, it's about art and storytelling.

You don't see that shit over in the west. Everyone's too busy trying to get off and publicize their fetish

I don't think we can really compare ladyboys to trannies. The cultural differences alone make it hard. I saw a short video of a ladyboy being interviewed on Twitter and the interviewer called him a lady and he was very quick to say he was NOT a lady, he was a ladyboy damnit. He also looked far more feminine than any of the troons we talk about. More like Blair White without as much obvious plastic surgery (like bolt-ons) to give that uncanny valley feeling.

I don't think it was just that he's Asian and so it's hard to tell males/females because we don't know what to look for. I could tell he was male, after analyzing his features. It was wierd, but not uncanny valley.

I could definitely see why the military warns men going over there about ladyboys. They're something else.

I've been ti a few ladyboy shows and usually get some pics with the performers after. When I share pics, literally no one notices.

It's been funny to see some of my "super straight" friends comment about how Thailand has such "beautiful ladies."


But yeah you're right. I have a few ladyboy friends and they'll make dick jokes all the time. They're very straight up about not being a woman.

The answer is, ironically, gatekeeping.

Western drag queens generally have some standards for makeup and character, but the genre is cartoonish and over-the-top enough that even ugly, very masculine men can find a niche and be praised for their performance. And then there are troons demanded to be called heckin' valid for putting on a Sailor Moon cosplay as a 6'3" brick shithouse with a 3-day beard.
