Chemical lasers that can reach high enough powers to be used as a weapon require dangerous lasing media. The US version was a deuterium fluoride laser. The risks of having to transport large amounts of potentially dangerous chemicals outweighed their usefulness as a weapon. Right now the military seems more interested in using lower power solid state lasers to defeat sensors on board planes, ships, or missiles.
