The only common thing is their alcoholism and unpredictable nature.

If this happens to bear any likeness to anyone else named Patrick, well it is a total coincidence.

I've been in a situation where a divorce happens and the kids are separated from a parent, and one side gets remarried. sometimes when a new step mother/father comes into a child's life, the biological parent that got the short end of the stick might "correct" or "fix" the parenting from the step parent with what little time they have with the child.

not inherently wrong if the step parent is lazy or a deadbeat, but since HE'S the deadbeat, you can probably expect a lot of screaming and physical abuse if it happens

Legally I would guess that PCJ dying changes nothing regarding Fatricks parental rights.
If this restraining order still applies, then I would imagine it also prevents him from having contact with any of her children.

I am sure Adrienne would also have set up someone else, such as a sibling, close friend or other family member to assume legal responsibility for all of the children should she pass too.

Perhaps in that circumstance Fatrick could interfere by way of claiming parental rights and there might be some kind of legal route for him to gain custody of his biological daughter, but he would have to be a callous, evil, selfish thoughtless man to do so.

I actually do wonder what his current wife would make of all of this.

Even though using established or beloved characters which are freely in the public domain is a bit of a cheap writing trick, Pratchett and Fraser both continue and enhance the characters they used in witty and entertaining ways.

The problem here though is Fatrick lacks the wit and panache of these two esteemed writers.
The only saving grace is that likely no one will read them to have Dickens’s works tainted in their imaginations.
