Rags promised a video on Mando. He made a video on Kenobi instead.

Just a reminder that when anyone on EFAP says they're going to do anything, it should be treated as a rumor and taken with a pinch of salt.
It's kinda interesting that Rags finds it unbelievable that the Grand Inquisitor survived a lightsaber stab but can totally suspend his disbelief when Anakin survived getting his limbs chopped up and getting immolated. People justify the latter because Anakin "used the darkside" but for some reason won't extend the same to the former despite his situation being less lethal. Also, why would Rags care if the Grand Inquisitor survived in Rebels? It's not like he cares about external media.

Wish Mauler and crew would expand their horizons and cover movies outside capeshit. There is a colossal list of overlooked underrated movies that they could talk about like Dark City, the Frighteners and Dark Blue. Critical Drinker actually talks about these gems at least. Kinda mixed on Critical Drinker. The whole SJW negativity gets pretty fucking annoying after a while.

EFAP isn't made for fun, it's made for money and their audience won't click on something that's not talking about popular stuff.
Their audience are the kind of people who think that "Hollywood is dying" when 3 capeshit trash movies in a row are bad.
The Grey, a $25 million movie released in over 3000 theaters in North America, is an indie movie to them.

Drinker is actually passionate about this, that's why his channel is growing and EFAP isn't.

It's pretty obvious they cover popular shit. Does anyone really think Disney was going to make a good star wars/capeshit movie? Fuck no. There's plenty of indy/foreign movies that are good and while Netflix is shit, it does provide access to a lot of this. Problem is that those movies aren't popular so nobody would watch EFAP. Plus criticizing a good movie is way harder than criticizing Disney shit. Everyone in youtube knows that negativity sells, which is why youtube has become a boring shitshow when it comes to media criticism. It's either blind consumer fanboys or just nitpicking boring shit.
I'm glad at least Drinker does the "Drinker recommends" things to balance all the marvel/disney shit talking.

There's a youtuber from my country who sometimes makes videos about cinema, often times to also respond to shitty videos about movies, and has a similar number of views as EFAP has on post of their videos (which is much more relatively speaking, considering his potential audience is much smaller due to the language barrier.) He is also bitter towards mainstream movies, but he has an actual movie culture, makes relevant criticism with counter-exemples, doesn't focus on the plot, and the shitty videos he responds to or the shitty movies he criticises are more of a pretext/bait to talk about and show actual good movies (and rarely does all of this in videos that are over an hour).

Anyone who has some level of movie culture can do what EFAP does better, and make actual constructive videos that can lead their audience to build a better movie taste.

Guys, Drinker isn't any better. He's also an idiot and has some bizarre writing takes. The first time he was on EFAP, my guy made the claim that mentors can't go through a character arc.

There's also this gem. Couldn't even name a single Japanese movie:

That doesn't put him on par with MauLer. Drinker is outright wrong with the mentor thing, and not knowing a Japanese movie (not even an anime tie-in film) is embarrassing. But MauLer didn't get 300+ pages by saying stupid things and lacking knowledge alone. MauLer's thin skin to any outside criticism, double standards with his hosts, and general "Drama Alert/Killstream" traits are what got this moved from Multimedia to lolcow farms.

Drinker is not an amazing reviewer, but it's nice to have someone talking about mainstream entertainment who isn't trying to be an intellectual who's too cool for Reddit school. If anything, you can thank MauLer and the likes for lowering the bar to where not going after people who give wrong takes makes you a positive example of an online reviewer.

I don't really care about Drinker not seeing more Japanese films. You don't need to know films from the land of the rising sun to explain why the latest Burgerstain blockbuster is generally not fun to watch when, in years prior, mainstream films were more consistently enjoyable.

For the final little bit as to why I don't see these two as comparable: Godzilla vs King Kong. He could see the appeal in it even if it wasn't something he enjoyed. MauLer has not shown to ever hold this mindset unless he receives massive pushback AND gets someone to walk him through it (cough cough Avatar).

Ironic

In realm of blind one eyed is the king.
He is only one of EFAPers / fandom menace I watch from time to time at this point.

That big Chance on the desk. I know he's being edgy but what if kids find his videos in the YT recommendation side bar?

Open degenerates like him should have all of their videos age restricted or just banned. Imagine asking him what if kids saw his videos with TWO massive dildos on the desk and how high and mighty he'd be about it like the smug faggot he is. All furfags should burn. MauLer hangs out with the most high quality people you can think of lol. MauLer should have the pedo Flamenco on next. Would anyone be surprised?

I will say that the desk tells you everything you need to know about him: he's a smug "PC race" asshole, is a pretentious asshole with his "smart" books out (which I doubt he read), can't let go of 2000s video games, drinks shit that is bad for you, an edgy faggot that WANTS you to know he owns a gun (edgy gunfag) AND a degenerate faggot that likely needs a diaper from ruining his asshole with fake animal dicks. Can we pass a law that furries cannot own pets? Please?

Ya know what? If a pickle joke gets the Act Man demonetized, then people like Rags and Jim Sterling who openly show off sex toys (be it a drawing or IRL) deserve the same.

After trying out the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, I figured I'd try the EFAP minis to see if they share some of the same criticisms I do or not. My guess is that they'll be so caught up in misunderstanding things that they'll miss most of the important problems. Also, I just want to say that I think the show's name is stupid. So is "The Book of Boba Fett". The former is bad because it makes talking about the show kind of awkward. I can't say "What do you think about Obi-Wan Kenobi?" because that's the character's name as well. So I have to say "What do you think about the Obi-Wan Kenobi show?" which makes it sound like late-night TV. Anyway, here goes.

EFAP Mini: Reacting to Obi-Wan Kenobi - Part 1

  • The editing in these Minis is obnoxious.
  • 5:43 - "I remember the thing" said sarcastically about the famous of "In a galaxy..." text. It's Star Wars, they did this for every film. It's tradition, and the show doing it too doesn't hurt the quality at all or even really come across as nostalgia bait.
  • 5:48 - "Ah look, Coruscant. I remember Coruscant! Why are we doing this?" You don't even know what the plot is yet. Is using an established planet really such a terrible thing?
  • 5:50 - "Remember the Jedi Temple?" I hate Fringy so much. It's a recap, my guy. "Do they think anybody doesn't know this?" It's skippable on Disney+. You can manually skip it on a pirated copy. Better to have it there for those who don't know than not have it at all, I'd say. It doesn't detract from the rest of the show.
  • They bitch about the recap for its entire duration.
  • 9:50 - Lots of kvetching about starting off with Order 66. Why does it matter if they do, so long as it's relevant to the plot? For the guys all about objectivity they sure do have an entirely subjective (and thoroughly irrational) aversion to seeing anything that references the prequels.
  • 10:28 - Fringy says "I think that having action music in this scene was a bad decision. It's meant to be tragic." I don't think the music makes it any less tragic than it would be with slower, sadder music. It's faster paced music because the scene is faster paced. It's an action scene. The emphasis isn't on the tragedy of the event like it was in RotS. Would you prefer they just do things the same way? Make up your mind.
  • 10:41 - "It should be silent." Why? What does that add?
  • 11:15 - Rags says "You spent four minutes on 'remember the prequels' and then one minute on 'aren't clones shit'" The recap doesn't actually eat into the show's runtime, iirc. More importantly, "aren't clones shit" isn't the point of that scene. Neither is Order 66. It's obviously about the younglings more than anything.
  • 12:06 - Mauler mocks the show for having bad guy music play as the bad guys arrive. Does this apply to the Imperial March in the OT? In my opinion it's not the presence of evil sounding music that's the issue, it's the quality of that music.
  • They laugh at the design of the Inquisitors, which is understandable.
  • 12:43 - Rags says "Would people on Tatooine even care?" Idk man, probably. Maybe they'll establish why people care about these guys showing up. Perhaps people know who they are and that's why they're concerned.
  • Complaints about the dialogue being bad, which is more than fair.
  • 13:42 - Mauler says "Why are you telling him this?" Just finish the scene and find out. He's delivering this monologue because he knows a Jedi is present. He's speaking at the bartender, but to the Jedi.
  • 13:48 - Fringy says "But I thought the whole [Jedi] thing was to be disconnected and emotionless!" Wroooong. Rewatch the prequels. It's not about being emotionless, it's about controlling your emotions. The point is to be selflessly compassionate rather than selfishly compassionate. (Fringy immediately recognizes his error and walks it back. He doesn't even think before he speaks.)
  • 14:00 - Comments about the Inquisitors being overtly evil, which contradicts the Empire's message of peace and order. This is the most important criticism of the newer Star Wars stuff. The Empire being nothing but pure evil doesn't make any narrative sense, especially at this point in the Star Wars timeline. The Empire needs legitimacy. That's the whole point of Sidious orchestrating the Clone Wars. Moreover, ANH establishes that people on Tatooine are plenty comfortable with the Empire's presence. When Obi-Wan cuts that guy's hand off in the cantina, it's Imperial stormtroopers that are called in to deal with it. Obi-Wan Kenobi actually has hints of this kind of thing later on, but the Inquisitors stand in stark contrast to that, even when they're not being as awful as Reva.
  • 16:00 - Fringy acts as if Mauler not caring about Reva's motivation is a sign that the story is badly written. It's not. He doesn't care because he's only watching the show to make the Mini.
  • 16:13 - Jay makes a bad faith assumption about the people who watch this show, saying "I think a lot of people who watch this show would probably say they don't care about her motivation". I'm watching it and I care.
  • 16:25 - Mauler thinks that the reason Reva gives for attempting to kill the Jedi doesn't make sense. I disagree. She tries to kill him because she's a selfish bitch. She doesn't care about this Jedi or the information she has, and just wants to move on to her pet project. It's all conveyed perfectly well in the scene, albeit with pretty awful line delivery from the actors.
  • 16:35 - Fringy would rather watch a show about how Tatooine "really" operates. Very autistic.
  • 17:50 - Mauler makes a comment about how Obi-Wan should be recognized. Tatooine is in the outer rim. The war took place primarily in the inner core of systems. That's why in RotS Grievous flees to the outer rim. That's why the Separatist leaders are sent to the outer rim. That's why the clones are made in the outer rim. Those worlds simply aren't as involved with the rest of the galaxy. It's not likely that the average person would follow the war closely enough to know what Obi-Wan looks like. After all, it's not as if he was being recorded everywhere he went or like he took pictures or something. Moreover, he explicitly avoids being involved with the politics in RotS. What you should be asking is why there aren't posters of his face everywhere, or some sci-fi equivalent.
  • It's so irritating the way they talk over the parts that are great even when they acknowledge how good they are. They can't just watch the show, they have to spend every moment speculating on what's going to happen next.
  • 28:48 - Mauler asks why Reva is picking on Owen. Fringy says "What, 'cause he looked at you?" Yes, because he looked at her. He stood out in that respect.
  • 28:52 - Reva asks Owen if he's a farmer. Metal asks how she knew that. It was a question, based on the fact that most people in the area are moisture farmers. That's mentioned in either RotS or ANH, I don't remember which.
That's all the EFAP I can handle. Goodnight.
