Following the line of logic from your last few posts, as long as circumcision remains legal, there's no chance doctors could be held accountable for operating on patients who aren't mentally sound enough to consent. Not to mention circumcision is like a gateway drug for troon surgery; it's a forced mutilation of genitals. Victims grow up knowing something is wrong but society will never give them the correct answer, then they ironically turn to more surgery to fix the so-called Dysphoria (this obviously only applies to AMAB dudes since female genital mutilation is outlawed in America). And I'm not saying every troon trooned out because they were circumcised, I'm saying for some of them, it was a catalyst.
If we don't care about surgical consent on newborn babies, why should we care about consent for an adult over the age of 18, even if they aren't mentally sound?

This might have been posted here before but here it is just in case. Last summer I stumbled upon a subreddit for men who identified as non-binary, basically blokes who wanted to keep on looking like big burly bears BUT wanted a pussy. Surprisingly there were quite a few post-op men there, but the majority were comments from obviously disturbed/traumatised/fetishistic etc. men who were only at the beginning of their "journey". Now, when I clicked on the profile of these men I saw multiple of them were furries into "cuntboy" art. Some of them also fetishized TIFs or the concept of men with pussies. There are menwho are seemingly gay with internalised homophobia, men who are probably traumatised but want to drill a hole into their crotch instead of going to therapy, men who simply think they are meant to have a vagina etc.

There are varying degrees and states of mental illness. Simply because someone has a mental illness doesn’t mean they cannot be a rational, functioning person incapable of consent.
Sure, but people who hate their genitals so much they want to mangle them shouldn't be considered sane enough to give consent to surgeons who would do it for them. I can't imagine any scenario where it would be acceptable or ethical to allow a man to have his genitals surgically mutilated for aesthetic purposes. Especially if it's to emulate the equipment of the opposite sex.
Also aren't there laws that say one cannot consent to their own abuse? Eg.: if someone consented to being stabbed by knifes, the police would still have to arrest the man who did it even if the victim doesn't want him prosecuted and says he consented to it? Thst's also why people rightfully critisize practicers of extreme BDSM who are basically committing domestic violence even if they use fancy words like consent and aftercare etc.

any rate this is why psychological consulting and gatekeeping are important for surgeries, people who truly cannot understand the consequences of the surgery, or who are unable to consent for other reasons, would be weeded out. there would be less detrans going on if those gates were still locked.
living as the preferred gender for a time, going through a psychological testing period to ensure informed consent and ability to heal/care for the wounds, then medical treatment that progresses slowly in a set manner backed by stringent research- that's the ideal way to manage this. add that surgeries should be standardized and studied in legitimate clinical trials, not randomly picked by a plastic surgeon.
edit to add: people who have gone through that kind of process to transition do have my respect. there are older people who did that, even back when there was zero acceptance. It would be easier and more socially legitimate to do this now than it was then

no, I mean going through years of psychological evaluation, living as their preferred gender without any surgery for a while (it used to be a year or two, from what I recall), paying their way to any surgical work, and following a medical regimen set out in a standardized manner. yes, I can respect that. that kind of gatekeeping is fucking NECESSARY. it's not harmful, it's helpful. it requires persistent dedication and an understanding of the reality of what the surgery will do.
we don't have that now, and look at this thread's mess.
edit: I don't give a shit about "nature's creation", surgery in general is one of the greatest human achievements. to see it used unethically is very depressing.
