There is a real difficulty with Bam in that he was so fabulously wealthy (don’t forget, this guy made more money as a skateboarder off his Jackass fame than Tony fucking Hawk has) that he still has, and will continue to have, enough money to cushion him from the real consequences of his addictions that make people think, fuck I’ve hit the rock bottom. Bam will not hit that. His money is well enough protected by his conservatorship and his family that he won’t end up actually roofless and stealing purses for drug money. There will always be another expensive comfy rehab to try, and he will always afford it.
Novak, whether you think he is a douchebag or not, hit the rock bottom and admitted it. The guy was turning tricks for drugs. He reached a place of, fuck I can’t go on like this, and he came back. Likewise Steve-O. When Bam squeals about no one understands and it’s not possible for him to get sober, he’s saying that to people who are his close peers and (sometimes) friends. They do understand. They did it. And there’s so many people around him who wouldn’t hesitate to give him a professional and personal hand up if he would just even make a full hearted attempt at trying to get clean. Even now, there’s still a pretty bright future for a sober Bam Margera.
But this is Bam, and for the last twenty odd years of his life, whenever something goes wrong it’s always, always someone else’s fault. Until that changes, nothing else in his life will.
