I’ve mentioned earlier in the thrwad they actually can’t. The involved parties have apparently decided to scrap it after being jerked around for almost 20 years.
They could lift sanctions on Russia. That would have a much more immediate effect on gas prices, I would imagine. How bad do things have to get in the USA before they're willing to do that, do you think?

Yep. Price ceilings lead to shortages. That's high school economics.

I imagine price ceilings actually worsen the problem.

Say you're in a class and the average grade is an C. The professor then decides to make the maximum grade achievable a C. Now those Cs are worth LESS and turn to Ds or Fs. Even worse, the people who scored above average would have their work diminished because the value artificially decreased.

Therefore, the class average remains the same, at BEST, decreases at worst. Is that a reasonable analogy?

Yeah from the sounds of it he thinks he's just going to go on there and since it's a free speech platform, just absolutely destroy all the uneducated rednecks over and over again and not be banned because haha stupid hillbillies so dumb, free speech means he can't be stopped from just owning them all day long.

Jokes aside, Putin would twist Biden's arm with that hypothetical. Worse, morale would decrease within his base as Biden is supporting Russia during war.

No because in that scenario you don’t have the option of saying fuck it and not participating in the class. With a price ceiling, companies have the option to say fuck it, I just won’t sell this. Hence shortages.

Oh, you're forced to LOSE money by government mandate. Wouldn't that eventually lead to gas being a government entity? What are the consequences of THAT?

That’s the thing. They’d be forced to lose money if they sold at the ceiling price. But not selling (and therefore not taking the loss) is the better option.

One can only hope. People say "oh without legal abortion all the ghetto queens will breed endlessly and outnumber us" but no they'll just get back alley abortions and bleed out in some shitty neighborhood.
Never liked that argument because white trash/ghetto trash already reproduce at high rates WITH abortion widely available everywhere. You can put the water out there but that won't mean the horse will drink it. It wouldn't make that much of a difference.

My wife is finally waking up to how serious the situation here in the US right now after she heard that the gov't is going to set prices for gas, and she's thinking we should move to her home in South Korea for a few years. I don't think it's that bad of an idea since I could make more money there than I can in the states (and that's saying something when you see how bad the Korean Won is ATM).

Edit: SK has a populist president now, and she loved Trump's populist policies so she's hoping that Korea will see a economic resurgence. That, and TBH the healthcare system there is faster and cheaper.
Isn't South Korea still sucking COVID dick though?

Atlanta, Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati; Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Milwaukee; New York City, Philadelphia, Richmond, Seattle; Washington D.C. These are the places with some of the worst murder rates in the US, and "pettier" crimes related to property or assault make things even worse for them. All of these are in blue states (though Virginia is a bit of a toss-up, I'll admit).

Though it is true that some of the most dangerous places to be in the US are in red states (Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Cleveland, Columbia; Kansas City, Little Rock, Miami, St. Louis; Memphis, New Orleans), get this: The vast majority of them vote for and are ran by Ds. The only rathole that isn't blue-ran is Miami and Columbia in South Carolina.
I doubt Newsom mentions this in his post, though.
