I don't like Vtubers aside from clips of Japanese ones cursing in peak Engrish. It reminds me of Moeblob anime like Lucky Star that put me off from anime for at least a decade. In effect, most Vtubers are like a live action version of those Slice-of-Life animes with cute-girls-doing-cute-things that never appealed to me.

And the popularity of the Sharkgirl character is creepy to me. You cannot deny there is a general pedo undertone to the Sharkgirl's fanbase. But to be fair to weebs, the dark secret of pop culture fandoms is they always had a lot of pedos lurking in them. It's to the point that Child Porn task forces will actually make note if a suspect's home had a lot of Star Trek memorabilia or Sci-Fi books on their book shelves. It probably has to do with people who underwent trauma seeking escapist entertainment to escape their mental and emotional issues. Japan, due to having different sexual taboos and conventions were just able to pander to this tendency much more openly than Western counterparts. This more blase attitude towards underage attraction, up to full on pedophilia, leaks into Western Weebery, causing a justified culture shock.

But dear god, the sheer fucking seethe Vtubers inspire is more pathetic to me than the actual Vtuber watching crowd. It's just some girls and men with voice changers putting on an improv act for fuck sake. The parasocial relationship that people have with these Vtubers isn't any more "real" than what people have with regular streamers or content creators. In a way, by putting on a fully made up character these Vtubers are being more honest with their audiences.

I'm reminded back to when Justin Beiber was all the rage, and fully grown men took it upon themselves to signal how much the just HATED some fucking underage teeney bopper they were rarely ever exposed to. I remember listening to a podcast around that time where one of the hosts ranted "How could ANYONE like music like THAT!?" Dunno dude, fucking tweenage girls. In a similar vein "How could ANYONE watch a stupid anime girl baby talk for hours!?" Dunno dude, some people just like cute things and are lonely I guess. "AND THEIR ALL PEDOPHILES" Yeah there is a creepy pedo vibe to a lot of it, but nothing worse outside typical weebery.
