This is anecdotal but it's really commonplace for artists to use irl reference for the things they draw. Pinup artists will collect images of gravure models, the character designers for games like Street Fighter will have muscular men to base their anatomy off of, artists who design monsters and dragons will draw from lizards and other reptiles. If lolis and shotas were just mythical creatures like monstergirls and furries and so on, I think people would have less of an issue with them, but even if people treat they like they are purely fictional, they are abstractions of irl children. Where do you think that they are getting their inspiration from?

This is purely anecdotal and I don't have a screenshot so I can't back it up, but I follow a lot of animators on twitter and I saw an artist I follow rt'd Dorontabi, who was known back then as Mammoth. He had gotten a credit as a key animator on a recent show so I went to look at his work. This guy is most infamous for the Uoooh and correction memes which are both heavily used by weeb and vtuber communities and also associated with lolis etc. He had posted a screenshot of an online checkout of pinup books of junior idols (which are usually very very young) he had purchased. Another artist had replied to him (I think it was mameozi3) with some links to other books of photographs of children she had purchased for reference. I blocked him after that but he keeps popping up since his accounts are constantly deleted for toeing the line with this stuff (I think he currently has an account called dorontabi_kids?).

While not all artists who draw this kind of content work with irl refs I'm sure many many do and the ones who don't are taking inspiration and visual cues from artists who are using it. While I value freedom of expression in art since a lot of loli and shota art is only a few degrees of separation from actual CP it does make me feel pretty queasy and I can't really stomach artists who flaunt it in their work.

The character Uzaki is in college and 20 years old. She's short, has big tits, and is smug. Nothing about her character, to me at least, indicates she's a child somehow. I have met women shorter than me who have big tits like that (usually latinas). And while there are anime characters who you can tell who are actually children, it seems like to me that you have a hard time differentiating between a heavily stylized character and what age they're supposedly are. The common example I can give is when a female character has large breasts but is supposedly a teenager or when male character is very muscular but also freshman in high school. Oddly enough one of the most popular series I know of, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has majority teenage boys that look like they lift weights on a regular basis.

The anime market is way more diverse than people make it out to be. Because although the consumer base is majority teenagers, you have people from all over the world from all different age groups who actively enjoy it. There's many different genres that people enjoy and not all of it is specifically made for younger audiences, such as dark fantasy like Berserk and Bastard. And while I also remember the days of watching anime on Toonami, majority of the characters I saw being sexualized were adults. It's also funny that you bring up Lucky Star and K-On because these were the kinds of anime being lambasted for, "ruining the anime industry with moe shit" by militant anti-moe fans who were rather creepy themselves. Basically they didn't practice what they preached and became infamous grooming teens at conventions.
