Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Happy Fathers Day Kiwis

Get down on your fucking knees and fucking grovel with gratitude that your parents accepted your mentally deranged, socially retarded, genetic deadend ass.
Agreed.

These freaks should be grateful their parents care enough to take care of their worthless asses. They should be grateful they’re allowed to live within the comforts of American society. There are 69 countries where it’s illegal to be gay, punishable by death.

Faggots and troons are their own worst enemy. We were doing just fine ten years ago in regards to gay acceptance. Now people are starting to think the rooftop approach isn't that bad an idea.
That’s because more people are starting to realize that today’s lgbt and feminist movement is a joke.

Nobody outside of the black community was watching UPN, though, and the one animated series they had wasn't treated well.
Kevin Smith had similar thoughts on that, feeling that UPN was asking him to be a big fish in a tiny pond. In retrospect, he does not consider how he handled the cartoon his finest hour.
*shudder*
Maybe we can make this more positive; what are some genuinely good cartoon dads? Ever since The Simpsons happened, every dad has been some kind of abusive man child and it got boring after awhile. It made even the halfway decent ones stick out more.

Professor Utonium was always a good egg. If we're going with father figures then Arnold's Grandpa. Greg Universe is a big one for me, same with Dr. Doofenshmirtz

Doofenshmirsch. Phineas and Ferb came on around the time I stopped giving at shit about cartoons (and tv in general), but Doofenshmirsch was my favorite character and a very likeable one despite being the antagonist. He was treated like shit during his childhood and give it his all to give his daughter a good life even if she didn't appreciate it.
What a spoiled little shit. "No, just accepting me as I am and living with me regardless of how I choose to live my life isn't enough! You have to be my personal army and cut ties with people who disagree with me, even if they are family!" Gen X (and Z)'s weird fixation on constant, uncritical, unyielding validation is the epitome of First World Problems.

People like this (the kind of person who otherizes their non-trans or non-gay family members as "cishets") don't understand that this kind of entitled mentality implicitly means that the spoiled brats making demands like this are ready and willing to cut off and villainize anyone for a minor misstep or disagreement at a moment's notice. First it's grandma, then it could be mom, or dad or the little brother, anyone could be next, so now they all need to walk on eggshells.

This fucking mentality is endemic in terminally online gays from Tumblr or Twitter and is reflected in how these people generally tend to not have many friends that aren't on discord and only talk to their families when they need food or money.

The worst part about this tweet in specific is that this person tweeting is 24 fucking years old. Cartoons like this aren't meant for kids 6-11, they're made for weirdos like this who are heavily obsessed with using the LGBTQ as a replacement for a personality.

Steven Universe and the whiny Gen-X millennials behind it ruined a generation of cartoons. (which is sad since technology is better and allows for better looking animation)

I disagree, SU isn't the problem even if it did come first and spawned a bunch of imitators. The problem is that certain shows make the content all about the struggle for equality instead of it merely being baked in. You need a little more than typical homophobia or transphobia to drive a story. I've not heard a single thing about that Dead-whatever show that wasn't related to sexuality, for example.

Are cartoons such as this designed to make people more homophobic? "Being nice isn't enough you need to grovel and apologize, forever."

Ugliest aesthetics you can think of + "fuck you dad" message. Lamest people alive.
There's standing up for yourself (both personally and as an artist) and then there's being like this: unreasonable, irrational and pretty childish. I can't speak for these people, I was not born like them and will never have to deal with their struggles, but spite only works as a motivator for so long. You'll eventually burn out and be less of a person as a result.

Disney has a thing about Mickey that way. All the way back in Bonkers he was an important part of one of the episodes, and they couldn't show him or even directly name him. I have no idea why.
This issue was also alluded to as a plot point in Hot Summer Martha.
Something similar popped up in Kingdom Hearts back when the first game was being developed and it's why Mickey only pops up as a full body silhouette at the end of the game, IIRC an interview with one of the Squaresoft/SE devs came out a little while ago saying that they could only get away with a Mickey silhouette due to there being another game studio working on a proper Mickey Mouse game at the time.

So maybe it's something like that.

Greg Universe is my favorite character to a show that got boring after a while. Shame the Gems weren't that nice to him. Speaking of father figures, would you consider Hank Hill a good one? I don't always agree with what he does or believes, but I do think his heart is in the right place.

Anyone remember that Problem Child cartoon?

Well, frell! I do remember it. It used to air regularly down here. It was... A show, that's for sure.

This also reminds me of a time when TV channels actually had separate slots for specific cartoons and anime. This, coupled with the bombastic ads for them, made them sound truly important, set apart from the usual programming aimed at kids.

For instance, on the same channel that had the aforementioned Problem Child series crammed in a regular cartoon block, they aired Dragon Ball Z in the early evening, as well as all those 90s WB cartoons like Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain. Another channel had good ratings airing Robotech, Batman: TAS and Gargoyles in their own different time slots as well. The anime craze truly caught on when Saint Seiya and Sailor Moon got their own late afternoon/early evening slots that raked in ratings and financial returns. So on and so forth.

I imagine the same happens over there in the First World to this day. Or at least happened.
