Most recent science (as far as I'm aware) had shown that the HFCS panic is pretty misplaced. It doesn't do much different than sugar to the brain and body, the problem is that people underestimate the effects of sugar. "Real sugar" is just as addictive and metabolically disrupting. It's amazing how many studies about HFCS omit "real sugar" groups. Well duh, if you stuff a rodent full of either you're going to have addiction and metabolic dysfunction...
yeah hfcs isnt poison, at the end of the day the type of sugar matters a lot less than the quantity of it

the main reason hfcs specifically gets so much hate is because it's the main form that the food industry uses to cram as much sugar as possible into everything, even things that have no business having any added sugar at all, like plain bread

Plain bread, but also even less suspicious things like yogurts, mac and cheese, peanut butters, pickles, and even deli meat, depending on the brand.

Most of the people featured on the Freaky Eater's show have some kind of deep trauma that propelled them to their bizarre food relationships, like prolonged sexual abuse or getting the shit beat out of them as a kid. Cheesy Potato Lady's trauma was that she ate a sandwich at 4 years old that she didn't like. That was it.
Look... it was a REALLY BAD, mushy sandwich, okay??!! :left:

It has to do with the type of sugar.

Yes. This paper has a good explanation of how fructose is metabolized versus sucrose or glucose.

Obviously, HFCS isn't the only cause of obesity, but I think the liver stuff is particularly interesting.

Also, of course there is sugar in breast milk. If you've ever been curious enough to taste it, you'll know that it's quite sweet relative to even cow's milk, which itself has high sugar content. The issue I have is that sugar isn't the first ingredient of human milk, nor is fructose the primary sugar. I did find an interesting paper that discusses the effects of a mother's milk composition on her infant. The sample size is small, but the investigators found a correlation between high fructose content in a mother's milk and infant body mass. To be fair, the increase was observed in both body fat and lean mass.

"I'M THE ONLY THERAPIST ACTUALLY DOING THE JOB!"
I mean, if your only professional purpose is telling people that is everybody else's fault but themselves' and delude them into thinking a medical condition is actually a way of "discriminate" them... Congratulations I guess...

And that's why I think Hannah is one of the most dangerous FA's out there, even though her speeches are pure non-sense, her tone and the words she chooses to use sound somewhat intelectual and thoughtout. Not to mentiont the fact that she makes a living out of telling people is completely a-ok to be obese and in pain because "It's not your fault, it's the doctor's fault!".

Edit: Grammar*

I'm not the kind of person who thinks "chemicals bad" (i use msg in home cooking, even) but it really is good life advice to read the ingredient label and buy whatever is simplest. Peanut butter should have nothing more than peanuts and salt listed. Pickles should be cucumbers, vinegar/brine, and spices/herbs, and some sugar if they're bread and butter.

Also jfc at Hannah. A good therapist would discuss why a fat person's situation and background might contribute to their body issues and eating habits while being non judgemental about their bodies and encouraging them to adopt healthier habits. Therapy should be a mixture of examining your own internal states and behaviors to become more functional (such as losing weight) while also learning to accept or minimize and cope with unchangeable external stressors in a productive way.

Like if you're black and have a good job but that one coworker is a racist asshole, that's when a therapist is helpful for coping strategies. If you're fat and the doctor says you can't have surgery until you lose 50 lbs because anesthesia is dangerous and difficult on someone your size, that's when a therapist should be supportive of weight loss instead of telling you doctors are fatphobic and you're fine as you are.

So funny she says we should not be policing our bodies. In this day and age where we have an abundance of food (ESPECIALLY junk food) and the ability to live basically sedentary lives, and we’re not supposed to “police” what we put into/do with our bodies to remain healthy and active? We don’t live in cave man times anymore where we have to physically exert ourselves for our next meal. Such shit advice lol

I’ll spare you the video (she’s dancing) but remember! This is the girl that said she knows more about health than actual doctors. No, I’m not being dramatic. She said this. She knows more than a doctor about nutrition and health. I almost threw up.

That's... disgusting. I'm glad she's outing herself - if you're thin and you go to her she will make the unshakable assumption your food issues are due to you being a fatphobic piece of shit that just needs to learn to stop having those mean girl thoughts I KNOW you're having about me!

Oh you were sexually assaulted when your body just started developing and the trauma caused you to not want to have a woman's body so you starve yourself so you don't grow boobs? NOPE. You hate fat people!

You had massive food insecurity as a child due to poverty and now you hoard food but are too scared to eat it because what if you can't get anymore? WOULD YOU STOP, YOU KNOW YOU JUST THINK I SHOULD BE A SKINNY SUPERMODEL, FATPHOBE!!!

The level of projection this woman shoves on her clients is unethical. Honestly, ANY therapist who hungrily chases clout on social media by using their profession isn't trustworthy.

The last one. Curious how she makes most her profit off those institutions (or belief they exist) however you want to look at it and has become those institutions themselves. The same mechanisms she claims that the diet industry uses to hate yourself to sell products she ALSO uses to sell products. They are literally selling the yin the diet cultures yang but both profiting off self hate. (And both will continue to cause you to hate yourself because neither of them are about health and fitness)

God, what a disgusting fat beast. She might not know anything about health but she knows how to eat like a pig & look nasty.

As long as we're on the topic of (in this case future) therapists:

Therapy is more or less useless these days because of woke shit

It really has become useless. As funny as it sounds you really can’t “fail” therapy anymore because it’s all about pharmaceuticals and woke shit now. Therapy use to be some hardcore shit where you and your therapist could actually improve your quality of life. You would actually feel shit about not meeting your goals and if you didn’t your therapist would make you feel shit. You would set expectations for yourself and areas you want to improve in and your therapist would hold you accountable with reasonable milestones and collaborative problem solving.

Now it’s all about drugs and neurotic crying. Completely pointless.

I think this also has to do with who goes to therapy and why. The “everyone needs therapy” train is dumb. If you have problems functioning in real life (like all the cows here), therapy should be a given. If you just get sad occasionally and hate your mom, go find a friend to go out with and bitch and get drunk on occasion. Cheaper and better than any therapy available.

I sort of disagree, the biggest problem is that these days anyone can call themselves a therapist (I know you technically need to be licensed, but Stephanie Cianfriglia could become a therapist with her social work degree). Just look at the crazies charging $27k for life coaching in the Judy thread.

Unfortunately, too many people go to therapy just to be "validated" regarding whatever "trauma" they think they've suffered from, and to confirm whatever nonsense they've self-diagnosed via nonsense internet echo chambers. If you're a therapist who bucks the trend of calling obvious borderline cases poor CPTSD victims, then you can't keep clients.

A therapist whining about "having to emotionally coddle" a service worker that she probably made feel like shit is not someone to be trusted.

There's also the whole "Therapy is therapy" thing, which makes people think it's all talk therapy and crying, but that's not how it is. There still are some therapists out there who do the kind of work you were talking about (exposure therapy/therapists being some of the first that come to mind) but god damn can they be difficult to find. It almost feels like we've gotten to a point where people just assume the default is "Patient doesn't want to change, patient just wants someone to talk to."
Can't say I even blame them. Look at this shit:

Doesn't the UK not even require certification or a loicense to be a "counselor"?
1655687688263.png
That's part of why FatDoctorUK fucked off to Scotland to be a therapist instead of a doctor-doctor iirc.

1655688156297.pngThere's a lot of demand for therapy, that's good.
But that also means that it's hard for people who need it to get appointments and help, that's bad.
There's less stigma around seeking help, that's good.
But that also means, like you already mentioned, there are people seeking "validation" and diagnoses to win them woke points, they don't want to change or get better, they just want clout. That's bad.
