I know that as devoted devotees of all that we are grateful to receive from the House of Mouse, it is important that we listen to the august words of wisdom from the font of all wisdom that is https://variety.com/2022/film/news/lightyear-box-office-disney-pixar-expectations-1235298276/ and discount the scurrilous specious spouting of the naysayers

"It’s hard to escape the deflating sense that Disney’s “Lightyear” has remained stubbornly Earth-bound in its box office debut. At least, that’s the prevailing sentiment that’s greeted the latest Pixar film’s so-so $51 million opening weekend in North America."

But don't worry, fans of all things Disney....

"To be sure, a $51 million opening weekend is far from catastrophic; in fact, “Lightyear” landed one of the best debuts for an animated kid friendly film in COVID times."

One must retain perspective and remember what the expectations actually were.

It's also critically important to remember, as our friends at https://screenrant.com/2022-movies-billion-dollars-prediction/ so kindly informed us;

"Another franchise film, Lightyear is one of the most anticipated 2022 family movies, which will be introducing a new angle to the Pixar and Toy Story universe. Instead of being a solo movie about Tim Allen’s Buzz Lightyear toy, Lightyear is a standalone movie depicting the origin story of the in-universe Buzz Lightyear sci-fi character that inspired Andy’s toy. Voiced by Captain America’s Chris Evans, Pixar’s new take is expected to draw viewers of all ages to the Toy Story franchise spin-off venture. Outside of superhero movies and sci-fi epics, Lightyear has the best chance to earn $1 billion after it premieres on June 17."

I'm now going to self-flagellate in order to purge myself of any doubts I might have had about the true brilliance of all that emerges from the diseased mouse's rectum that is Disney.

I hate this trend where they take established characters and tear them down and make them look bad in favor of the new blood. Star Wars did it, MCU is doing it to the pre-endgame characters and now Buzz.

It just seems so petty and makes no sense from a business perspective. All you’re doing is killing the longevity of your brand.

Theme song of Disney/Pixar as they try to justify Lightyear bombing:

Man Eisner wasn't a bad guy after all
he certainly had his flaws but holy shit he was the prequel trilogy to Iger's sequel trilogy
he certainly went waaaaaaaaaaaay too deep into the hotels, especially without infrastructure beyond "just buses, bro"
but he at least understood the value of an Uncle Walt figure, even if it meant him playing the joke of "I want to be Uncle Walt but I'm some Hollywood asshole"

He was also kind of nuts and made some incredibly bad deals - I genuinely think Disney's buying of Fox Family did no one good at all.

Eisner's bad deals were worse than Walt's. Walt had, what, Fantasia?
iirc he died burying the company in debt for his Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow

The Southern Baptist Convention had a ban on Disney for years because of the gay days at the parks.
You mean they still don't? They believe all the conspiracies like SEX in the Lion King, the Little Mermaid VHS dong, and are always livid that they release non family-friendly fare under different studios. And if the CAP fundie is any indicator, their actual family-friendly output doesn't meet up to their standards anyways.
