War Elephant ‘killed woman then went to her funeral and trampled on her corpse’ - Fucking Hell, what did she DO?

An elephant allegedly killed a 70-year-old woman and then returned to stampede on her dead body during her funeral.

The escaped animal trampled Maya Murmu while she was collecting water in Raipal village, Eastern India, on Thursday, police said.

She died from her injuries in hospital and her body was placed on a funeral pyre that evening.

But the elephant came back and trampled her corpse while her family performed last rites, Press Trust of India reported.

Once the animal left, the family is said to have proceeded with the funeral.

The elephant escaped from Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, in Mayurbhanj, 200km away, according to reports.

In October, An elderly tourist was trampled to death by an elephant in ‘full view’ of his son in Zimbabwe.

The ‘tuskless’ female elephant charged at Michael Walsh, 71, and his 41-year-old son as they took a morning walk in Mana Pools National Park.

They were only 40 metres away from their car but Mr Walsh couldn’t outrun the huge animal.

Park spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said: ‘His son watched as the elephant killed his father.’

Mr Walsh, a vet from Cape Town, South Africa, was a ‘loyal tourist’ who had been visiting Mana Pools ‘almost every year’ for the past 35 years.

He died just days after an anti-poaching co-ordinator was trampled to death by an elephant in Victoria Falls in western Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe’s national parks and environmental groups are reporting increased cases of conflict between humans and wildlife in recent years.

More than 40 people have died from such conflicts in parks and other rural areas in Zimbabwe last year, said Mr Farawo.

Elephants kill approximately 100 to 300 people each year in India, according to stats from the World Wildlife Fund.

Should have just handed over the last Rolo!

Elephants are becoming increasingly angry and aggressive due to poaching, I somewhat feel bad for the woman but elephants can and frequently do have PTSD, I wonder if she gestured or shouted at it since it said she was collecting water at the time.

Also elephants have their own funerals.... It knows what it was doing.

Yeah, the increasing conflicts and deaths are likely because the elephants view all humans as a threat at this point. Fuck poachers and trophy hunters, they ruin everything. Soon enough this problem will grow worse than it already is and the locals will be forced to kill attacking elephants to protect themselves. Or, there cannot be anyone allowed but park rangers into the sanctuaries anymore to give the elephants some more distance from people (but there will always be the threat of poachers). There's really no happy ending here I don't think.

Elephant walks 200km to stomp an old lady, then stomps her corpse at her funeral.
Do Hindus believe in karma and reincarnation?
If so, WTF did this old lady do?
A lot of vapid Tik Tokkers are saying she messed with the herds babies and helped poachers. There is no credible evidence to this specifically but
An elephant never fucking forgets.
Nor forgives apparently.
And it could just be this too.

He must have been really pissed at this lady.

I've read that crows don't forget you fucking with them either. They'll tell your children what a dick you were and they'll remember your face too.
I think it’s a she since it’s in a herd. From what I understand male elephants are usually solitary.

I could 100% see this being the case, everything about it makes sense. The elephant probably noticed a pattern that whenever the herd sees this woman in particular, poachers show up shortly afterwards, so she was proactive in solving the problem. Crashing the funeral was just to send a message and make sure the old woman is absolutely definitely dead.
It also lines up with how old the woman was 71 years means there was a decent sample size for the elephants to notice a pattern.

Elephants in India are half-domesticated though. There are wild elephants, but there are also quite a lot of domesticated elephants that are used as mounts and work-animals.

It turns out you can buy forgiveness from crows, or at least peace:

For... reasons I might have more than earned my place on crows' bad side. In somewhat of an act of penance I began hanging cakes like above in a cage like pictured. They need protein so seeds for songbirds usually won't cut it. Now my crow bros hang out all the time and actually chase off the other birds that used to shit on my car.

Turns out much like the Sparrows in China, the belief that crows are a pest that needs eradicating is misinformed. Years-long extermination campaigns are a good way to get them to hold a grudge.
