Though, to be fair, I'm not sure that the troons wouldn't be correctly picking up on an implicit power dynamic buried in the phrase "acts of service," which, to me, is a creepy choice of words to describe a romantic dynamic. "Service" is etymologically linked to and cognate with a whole bunch of words that are still used in the vernacular to signal the condition of servitude. You perform acts of service for your superior within a hierarchical institution or arrangement, like an oblate preparing food for a priest or a vassal contributing his children to the king's army or something along those lines. They're trying to signal concrete expressions of devotion but that's not the wording they're choosing. Long and dumb book sperg, but this guy has clearly never read this book series past the cover description. I’ve read the two books in this series from a recommendation and it’s basically about two mentally ill women with a dash of body horror, necrophilia, and mass genocide. There is no “romance” in this story, besides one of the main characters, Harrow, being in love with a corpse (who is female! #representation) and the other one, Gideon, is a massive perv who ends up sorta Skyrim soul-trapped. There is one actual (straight) couple, but they die a few chapters after being introduced. Good books, but Gideon in the first one speaks like a Tumblr post (not SJW-y, but Tumblr “quirky”.) It’s obviously for a specific audience, but were overall fun reads. Pisses me off to see it described as “UwU lesbian womance!” by a troon.
