The /pol/ Theory of Beta Male Facial Expressions

Honestly there is something that I don't think I can explain in a rational sense. But you can tell the difference between someone legitimately happy and feigning happiness.

If you look at these people geek shit aside almost all of them have this almost deranged sense to them. You can just take a look in their eyes and see that their smile and life feels hollow. The judge probably doesn't but that's the difference between a bug and everyone else. a bug has a very hollow smile it quickly and naturally goes back to a grim feeling of misery.
A real smile goes to the eyes. You can see the skin crinkle at the corner of the eyes.

Someone who genuinely smiles a lot ends up with those tell-tale wrinkles even on their resting face.

Also a fake smile tends to be artificially broad.

Man... Jorge Gutierrez has certainly changed in the last few years

I can never understand why people have to make such exaggerated expressions like this. Maybe I'm just too autistic or something but for photos if it isn't a silly photo, I sometimes feel like anything more than a small smile is overdoing things. But I would die of embarrassment getting caught gaping at the camera like these slack jaw idiots and that was even before discovering the soyface phenomenon
Going to powerlevel a touch to answer this. I used to do it. Reason being is I didn't like having my picture taken (still don't, actually). So I'd do that in every picture to fake enthusiasm or piss off whoever was taking the picture. So I'd guess a lot of these people have some sort of self-image issue that they're trying to hide by trying to look as excited as possible.

Oh well that makes sense, I guess to rephrase I don't know how people can do the gaping mouth thing and then think to themselves "yes this is a good picture"

Yeah take a look at that picture. Two betas for the price of one.
The betas almost always have open mouth smiles. The alphas almost always have grins or smile that bears no teeth. You can sense these guys love showing their teeth almost as a war to show their masculinity whilst signaling to everyone they're submissive and weak.

I always knew there was a reason I hated smiling in pictures.

That said, I definitely think there's something to be said for "faking it 'til you make it." If you act like you're confident and enthusiastic, eventually that attitude will become second nature. So while I can understand why some people might do this in photos, ultimately I think it's more important to focus on cultivating a positive outlook in your everyday life.

But why fake enthusiasm? Why not just express the scorn you actually feel for this dumb ritual? Almost all photos of me will have me scowling.

This has become a common disease among slot channels. Who sees that wide open gate and things to themselves, "this looks exciting." no.
you're thinking about this reductively and literally none of those people do, otherwise they wouldn't be doing the exact same thing everyone else is doing to try and draw attention to themselves.

the "logic" behind it is that stupid people over-analyzed the youtube algorithm and came to the conclusion that it recommended videos with human faces making absurd expressions because those were the most viewed videos. which relies on the presupposition that the algorithm is doing anything, you can explain that by just saying that everyone is trying to copy Mr Beast. people have been cargo culting casey neistat for almost a decade at this point without any success and nobody even stopping to think about how maybe the only reason he got popular was because he was the first one to do it.
