Maybe I'm forgetting what I posted and where, but — and let me explain myself — I believe that Epstein did in fact kill himself. There was still a smaller, but at all points more plausible conspiracy required to facilitate this and he was central to his own criminal conspiracy, of course. I also believe that the amplification of the "Epstein didn't kill himself" meme in relatively mainstream circles was a purposeful part of the wider conspiracy.
Why do I think this. First, he faced the prospect of going from living a billionaire's lifestyle to the rest of his life in jail. Maybe I'm just weak, but if I was in that situation, my number one goal would be figuring out how to end myself. He'd skated once already but there were infinitely more eyes on the case this time.
You may say, at this point, 'but what about [a weird inconsistency that implies he didn't want to kill himself]?' Almost every one of these inconsistencies disappear when you remember that many of the people involved are professionally or legally required to prevent suicides. His attorney says that 'he was in good spirits, totally didn't seem like he wanted to kill himself' because if he did and he admitted he knew, he could face disbarment or possibly even sued by the Epstein estate, which survives after the man himself dies. Similar for jailhouse psychologists. Additionally, if you want to kill yourself in jail, your number one priority would be to make sure as few people as possible know that. It would be much harder if you're on suicide watch. Epstein says he was 'attacked' during his first suicide attempt. I believe that's simply a desperate lie to buy time and space to try again in the near future.
That leaves another question of, basically, "if that's what happened, why was everything so shady?" That's partially explained by the motivations for people to hide that they knew he wanted to do it. The rest of that may come from a 'partial' conspiracy angle. He still had connections and a powerful attorney; they make it really difficult to kill yourself in jail. I believe that the seemingly purposeful obfuscation is indeed a cover up but that it's just covering up subtler steps people took to assist his suicide. For example, perhaps his attorney provided him with something sturdier than the bedsheet. Maybe he used his connections to arrange a missed check or find out which guards are most likely to miss their rounds. Epstein placed a call to who he claimed was his mother in the hours before his death. My belief was that this was to find out when the right time would be.
Now you have a dead peadophile with a belt around his neck discovered by the guards who skipped their last two rounds of the cell block. A person in charge of the jail can then say "you two idiots are fucked, your incompetence and laziness just ruined the trial of the century! You're damn lucky this is a huge headache for me too so I can make this go away for you if you don't tell anyone that you fucked up and let him sneak that belt in!" They're now scared shitless, not being in on the plot, and all that's left is to remove the belt and destroy the tapes of this discovery.
I use the attorney-provided-belt just as an example to illustrate my point. A real, but partially-assisted suicide still requires every suspicious detail to pull off, but requires minimal outside assumptions. Powerful people did indeed prefer him dead, and they may have helped grease the wheels but the assassination plot is just a bit too far. As we saw with the Maxwell case, the "Epstein" crimes were covered under the original non-prosecution agreement and would not have come up in the trial. Go read summaries of the Maxwell case, those girls were all, for lack of a better word, 'personal' Epstein victims. The ones involving a network of powerful people weren't admissible because of the NPA. It would have been the same for Epstein himself.
The "Epstein didn't kill himself" meme has been incredibly successful in boiling down the whole scandal into just whatever happened in the MCU, getting people to ignore everything else.
