I think that genderfluid actually would make a good character feature if done in a non-woke/troon-y manner and in a shapeshifter manner. Same goes for non-binary, you can make a fictional character without sex and not make it woke but mysterious.
This is why I was originally on board with ~respecting~ Apex Legends BH’s thembie identity because it was genuinely hard to tell what they are. Half the fandom assumed it’s a woman, and another half assumed it’s a man. But then Respawn PR and the voice actress (yes, actress) had to go full autistic screeching about “RESPECT THIS FICTIONAL VIDEO GAME CHARACTER’S PRONOUNS REEE” it was cool while the concept was simply “this character is so mysterious people can’t even tell their sex” but of course like every ultra lib company they saw a positive public response and destroyed it by pushing their luck.
