If the premise were true; Japan would have been trannied a long time ago. I’m not sure there is any country with such a high percentage of screwed up sexually citizens than the USA

I mean, I originally got into anime because I watched Star Blazers, Robotech, Pokemon and Yugioh as a child so I don't know how well that holds up.

Weebs are like Furries, they're degenerate and prone to becoming even more degenerate to the point where they develop Zoophilia/Paedophilia. It's also down to how much one watches anime, if you just watch it sometimes you're lucky because that won't ever happen.

Troons would latch into any media they believe will fuel their escapism even if the message encourages the opposite. BUT, the thing is that Animu itself is mostly escapist fuel for depressed teenagers and manchildren.
Coomerism and those slice of life animus with mary sue protagonists that serve as AGP self inserts don't help.

It's true that some anime is escapist fuel for depressed teenagers and manchildren, but I don't think that all of it is. There are plenty of slice-of-life shows with relatable characters and down-to-earth stories that can be enjoyable for everyone. And while there may be a few Mary Sue protagonists out there, I wouldn't say they're the norm. So I don't think we should write off all anime as being unhelpful escapism just because of a few bad apples.

I think part of it is over-exposure to screens during formative years, and the fact that animation has become more "adult" in general.
It also seems that the anime I was exposed to as a little child-- Unico, Little Bell, The Last Unicorn, etc., didn't have explicitly pedophilic elements to them. I used to watch those Grimms Fairy Tales, too, and they were pretty innocuous. I'm assuming they had to pass muster in terms of legal content in order to be shown to Western audiences. Somewhere along the line, censorship requirements for Western entertainment dropped. It seemed animation in general became more "adult" around the early 1990s. At that time, I was surprised to suddenly see sexual innuendo in Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Ren N Stimpy. I was raised with much older siblings, so none of it was totally shocking to me, but I was surprised to see it nonetheless. I didn't say anything to my parents. It was hilarious to watch my brother, who was 11 years older than me and in college, suddenly watching Ren and Stimpy and asking me to draw cartoons of them for his college friends. "Kids cartoons" increasingly started to focus on adult humor and messages. Although I was a TV-addict at a young age, I at least had a few years where I was exposed to story lines that had better messages. Some of those old school anime movies had dark war themes, but they weren't entirely wrong, either. The message came across to me as a young kid that, for example, genocide was wrong, war was devastating, murder and theft were wrong, etc..
Compared to my older siblings who were NOT watching screens for huge stretches of time as a kid, I had more difficulty in school, social situations, etc. If I were a child today, I would easily be diagnosed as Aspergers/Autistic spectrum or ADHD. My whole world seemed to be swallowed up by make believe, inspired by what I saw on the screen. To see the images I adored, I learned to re-draw them on paper, create my own characters and story lines. My parents were older and disinterested in actually parenting, despite one being a SAHM and the other having "retired early" and given a nice fat pension due to physical disability. This probably isn't too unlike younger people who were plunked in front of screens as babysitters.
Western adults who raised children while under the impression that animation was mostly "wholesome and harmless" didn't realize how dangerous and addicting it could become, so they allowed their children to watch anything that was 2D without actually screening it themselves, first. This allowed kids to watch really inappropriate material without parents really paying attention. Add Internet forums dedicated to anime, and groomers had an easier time conversing with children.
For me, just looking at still depictions of anime characters, it takes a moment or two for my brain to pick up on the inappropriateness of the image itself. The use of childlike faces, cuddly creatures, infantile colors, etc., masks the pornographic content to lazy eyes. It's an ingenious way to promote bizarre sexual ideologies to children without being perceptible to adult eyes.

Kind of a dumb thought, but I've wondered if the way the language is structured has anything to do with it.
Unlike English, its easier to make stories almost impossible to read for kids and retards by adding difficult kanji and wordplay.
That being said, that doesn't explain anime, but then again the more "extreme" shows are either web only or extremely late night slots, which probably mitigates the issue somewhat.
