Financial Furry Fuck-Ups - When Funds & Furries Don't Mix

@Roxanne Wolf
man boomers really fucked up with their millennial and zoomer kids.
I’m not sure if Boomers were the ones raising most millennials and zoomers. I know it’s not a rigidly defined thing, but as an example my parents are baby boomers, and they were already almost 40 when they had me, and I’m over the age of 30 by now. I think most baby boomers were way past childbearing age by the time zoomers started being born.

Boomers get a lot of flack when it's really their fuckup Gen X (1960s-80s) kids who are the ones that birthed the most entitled of Millenials and some Gen Z.

Who knew that the 70s and 80s would foster an entire generation of entitled drug-addled rejects who were obsessed with completely arbitrary social justice causes that changed every other week and forming into kumbaya cults while waiting for bombs that never fell and an end of the world that never came.

Who knew that these people would in turn have their own children and project all their resentment for their own parents successes onto them, pissing away loads of money on consumerism for said children to avoid actually engaging with them personally as they hawked whatever plastic garbage they could think of at them, and then got upset when their kids became social media husks for lack of any other engagement or social stimulation.

Who knew that the same generation that scraped and hoarded as much money as possible from the free market to buy real estate for "muh portfolio", only to then drop any and all former pretenses about wanting to overthrow or improve the gubbamint when the economy they bemoaned in their youth would crash and burn two times in a goddamn row before most #Millenials were even out of high school.

This is your obligatory "every generation is trash" reminder, but really Gen X gets a lot of completely undeserved asspatting purely because people are nostalgic about hippy-dippy drug culture, Star Wars toys, and 70s-80s rock musicians.

I can't even be mad at the Millenials or Gen Z anymore either. They're just victims of the culture who raised them.

I think the main problem is that it became very unpopular to teach about finances. The only reason why I've noticed this is because my mother happened to have very old fashioned methods for keeping track of money and taught me how to use those methods well. They don't teach kids how to be responsible beyond basic math. So of course you get problems like furries not being able to pay bills because they're not taught or are too retarded to understand why saving money and budgeting are extremely useful skills.

This is something I'm conflicted about. On one hand drawing crappy furry OCs for money would be one hell of a side hustle but on the other I don't know if I can stand reaching for that low hanging fruit. *sigh*
I say go for it, for now at least. I know that eventually you will start getting the weird and out there commissions and those can be politely refused very handily. The ones you need to be careful of are the weird/deviant requests that come with a high money offer. It's very easy to be pulled in and think 'just one of these' and be seduced by the quick and easy money. Do it for too long and you may even start developing fetishes yourself, remember: as you gaze into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you.

There's also the danger of going through burnout from too many commissions which REALLY sucks if you genuinely enjoy doing art just for the sake of it. Just treat commissions lightly, don't be seduced by the money, and DON'T make it your primary source of income and you will live like the oompa loompa doopody-do!

Burnout from too many commissions is real. As is joint damage if you're not stretching or if you're holding your pen weird.

But if you go for it, set rules for yourself.

How intricate is each drawing?

How long are you going to spend on each one?

How many will you work on at a time?

It might even be worth it to make YCH bases, even if it is lazy, because it saves you time.

Thought I would provide a brief update on my shit-for-brains personal lolcalves; Kage Ott & Kay with their failing financial endeavors.

First off:

Kage Ott - Hurting for Rent & Showin' Off The Crib

To the surprise of nobody, Antonio (Kage) is having trouble coming up with rent money:
1656295947159.png
S / A / A

A day after pandering for sales, what does he do? Show off his coom cave, of course:
1656296560796.png
S / A

Some items shown off in the video of note:
  • A wall of commissioned art
  • A large (most likely queen-sized) custom build large crib
  • Multiple large stuffed animals
  • Children's plastic blocks
  • A shelf full of stuffed animal otters
  • A walk in closet containing:
    • Adult diapers designed for ABDL use
    • Custom ABDL clothes
These items are no doubt very expensive - especially the ABDL themed items as they cost much more to produce than mass-produced toys and stuffed animals. Too bad that saving's isn't a thing for when you'll need money, right?

Next we take a look at:

Kay - Texas Exodus

It looks like Kay has some big news in store:

Her "boyfriend" is also on the same idea:
1656306423705.png

And in unprepared e-beggar fashion, they will set up a PayForMe GoFundMe, since four people can't save up enough to move together:
1656306572510.png
S / A

Lets take a look at the new cost of living they'll be up against...
1656306683460.png
S

I don't know about you all, but I'm going to gear up for seeing twice the e-begging posts when they're in W. Washington - since they're nowhere near prepared to thrive - or even survive in such an expensively hellish place.

Once again I wonder if my last scrap of questionable dignity is worth all the coin I could make by bilking furries of their welfare checks.

Fuck it, my self esteem might be flexible but my mind would snap.
This has come up a lot during the Coof with regular artists so I'll sum up the warnings for you. First thing you need to think about is whether you want your art on KF. There is the chance something you think is innocent enough proving otherwise and your reputation as a furry artist being tainted by that documentation. You become part of a legend. If you change your handle someone will still recognise your art style.

It's not just farmers who may be curious enough to identify you. Furries are massive autists and if they take an interest or form a grudge they will find your powerlevel. They'll make inquiries with PayPal. Harass you if you're late. If you're gay enough to do cons, they'll become your booth barnacle. I can't stress enough how obsessive they get about their commissions.

Do not be seduced by the prospect of big bucks for low effort. These are outliers. Realistically you need to be above average, work consistently, and have no moral objections to thrive in an oversaturated scene. "No lewds" doesn't cut it anymore. You're drawing the weird shit and rubbing shoulders with other furry artists. Too close to the poo.

Finally... If you are a decent enough artist to begin with, a lot of artists had increased profits in the last 2 years without resorting to fetish art. It's still hard work but at least you're not drawing scaly futa for tards.

That tour. :cryblood: Holy shit you do not need that many clothes. I imagine the modified bed probably cost $3000-$4000 alone.

The "we're moving to Washington so we can abort babies weeeeh!" has the same sort of vibe people on twitter were screeching about when Trump won. They all screamed about how they were moving to Canada and then nothing happened.

This is what I'm worried about. All it takes is one pissed-off retard to bring someone's career crashing down nowadays and if autists know that you're making spicy statements on a place like the farms you could pay dearly for it unless you have the resources to tank it.

I'm coming back with more adoptable horrors, this time worse than before.

Waspsalad / Waspsalads
Waspsalad is a furry NSFW artist, who joined the fandom two years ago (~May 2020). Unlike other furry porn artists, who prefer to work on commissions for their living, Wasp realized that is too much work and therefore went to the easiest money-making routine - adoptables.

Wasp's designs specialize in being furry kobolds species, sold on a site called YCH commishes, with their early design reaching 850$.
645791345.png

(A)

Two earlier designs got paid less, making 329$ in total.

Some other kobold designs made around 300$-400$ max, in December 2021, a kobold made around 905$ and another 955$.

A design early this year reached 1200$.

And now you may be thinking "Possum, 1200$ for a lizard sketch in the furry fandom is nothing!!". Well, don't worry, because the reason why I wrote about this person in the first place is their latest June action that reached 5,500 Dollars.

45612357856.png

(A)

No reference, no animation, no art piece, just a lazy lizard doodle. There's no way that this is real... right?

Well, Wasp couldn't believe it as well and had to make a private conversation with the bidder to make sure this isn't a joke or a scam.

I don't even know what to say at this point. The furry fandom's financial irresponsibility has no chill.

I was mostly joking in my earlier post, except for the bit about my mind snapping if I had to deal with those undersocialized obsessives and their fetishes.

Still, I appreciate the warning about dipping my toes in Lake Crazy.

if autists know that you're making spicy statements on a place like the farms you could pay dearly for it

I don't even post my normie art on the Farms in fear of being recognised. Having to keep my personas here, in furry circles and IRL completely separate sounds like too many balls to juggle!

This is off-topic, but boy howdy am I glad recent events have sent "people" like this fleeing my State.

___
This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite threads. Its self-made retards, getting separated from their money, and their only collateral damage is themselves, and potentially the artists. Its great for a laugh, and largely without much rage-bait.

Thank you my, totally not suspiciously knowledgeable, friends. I am sure that you all know of all these people and drama just by pure happenstance.

Same to you, my equally not suspiciously knowledgeable friend! May we enjoy laughing at greedy degenerate furries for many pages to come! :heart-full:

Actually I think this thread is becoming a favourite of mine too. Yeah there are hints of political garbage which is par for the course for modern lolcows but the focus on furries burning their wallets is a welcome breath of fresh air. It's the sort of thread you'd see on SA or 4chan way back in the older days of the internet.

Not sure if this goes in this thread, but it seems related -

Furry artist Thornwolf (thornwolfart on Twitter) is butthurt because other artists undersell her on commissions:

View attachment 3422282

Honestly I don't know anything from art, or selling art or whatever but this seems like she's just mad younger furry artists will charge commissioners less, for quality that's same or better than hers. I have this image of her owning a bakery and then going to every other bakery in town and ranting about "you need to RAISE PRICES on your cupcakes because I'm going out of business!!).

Though yeah, as @RembrandtCourage courage said here..... I'd love to see prices go through the roof and furries go broke that much faster. But I'm still rolling my eyes at Thornwolfs complete lack of understanding of how free enterprise works.
The general opinion when it comes to commissions, whether you're a furry artist or some anime artist--is that if you are receiving TOO MANY applications when you open Commissions, then you should increase your prices. I've known people who've done this and had to dip their prices back down later on because, obviously, their art became too expensive and they didn't get enough request to scrawl OC's.

Bottomline to Thornwolf: If her art was desirable, for one reason or another, be it because her style was distinct or her art was just plain good, she wouldn't need to be worrying about people undercutting her like she's marketing crafting materials in an MMO.
One thing she's not mentioning is that a lot of people who undersell their art are foreign, primarily Russians who can get by or make bank charging far less money than most furry artist. Whether this is done purely out of ignorance to 'market standard' quote unquote art prices, or merely wanting to garner work at prices that get them a lot of commission request is anyone's guess. Miles-DF is the stand-out punching bag in these sorts of debacles because it's akin to getting mugged, and the mugger takes your wallet AND a kidney. But the art isn't much better than most artist. Clout and popularity is enough to make some people prices skyrocket.

On the other hand, more power to the folks working a job and making a little extra dosh with something they treat as a hobby. Undeserving of this woman's butthurt, because most of these folks know they can't make ends meet entirely from their art, but are doing what it takes to eventually get to that point.

Vani is a straight up manipulative POS and I'm surprised no one looked into how someone who makes that much money could have so many money issues going on, going so far as to guilt trip her customers into giving back the designs their bought because they want to help her.

Not sure how you could not see the red flags as someone who bought a design.

she’s constantly ebegging too yet seems to be able to afford designer cats and a whole ass apartment without any apparent roommates.
unless mom and dad pay for her bills, it’s easy to see she’s shitty at finances.
Oh, Vani is more than that. She's a straight up scammer. It's not talked about much now, but she started about 15 years ago taking reasonably priced commissions. Problem is, she didn't follow through on a LOT of those, particularly from small to no name clients. She got her big name clients and personal art heroes stuff done on time, but if you were a small artist in the scene, or just a poor sap who wanted to buy a commission from your fave, there was a good chance she'd just take the money and run.
Most of the original drama is documented here (some screencaps may not work anymore):
I suspect this is the REAL reason she identifies as a genderspecial now. The whole dead naming thing gives her an excuse to change her handle AGAIN with a SJW reason not to question her other aliases, and the they/them pronouns obfuscate her identity further.

Most of the "I'm moving to Canada!" fucktards ended up shutting their fucking mouths when they discovered that Canada and most other Western countries have requirements for anyone wishing to become citizens. They actually expect immigrants to have valuable marketable skills or education to be accepted, and having degrees in gender theory, women's studies, or 11th century Mongolian basket weaving or job experience as a barrista won't cut it. For some reason only the US accepts worthless dregs who have no value to society.

I'm sure when these mooching losers move to Washington that their grifting won't skyrocket due to their newly developed cannabis habits.

Nigga if you want to have a costume that can do this you fucking bet it's going to be heavy. It's one of the reasons some people who play costume characters in movies work out. It's costume creation and SFX 101.

The head's pretty well made. The furry's a spoiled brat for complaining about a feature he probably asked them to do.
