Except none of that was Phil's reason for not doing it. He said he wouldn't work with Keemstar because 1) Keem called him at the wrong time of day and he can't ever talk except certain hours, 2) He can't take money from a big meanie like Keem. He never said he didn't trust him. If Phil wasn't a narcissist who lives in mortal fear of having to interact in situations he can't control, he could have at least negotiated a deal to see if it was all a joke. Every day we hear how he's barely getting by, and today in his rant he said he "could have given his wife a honeymoon" AND paid off his back taxes but he just couldn't take that $50K from someone mean. He literally said he begs to make a living instead.
Since the 50 tier on patreon claims its one video for every month a patreon is subscribed, i don't think phill will try to pull the "one time benefit" unless he wants to be a real asshole. or he can claim that since its uploaded to his channel its under his copyright protection.
Agreed, I assume Keem was trolling Phil with the $50k number because Phil is nowhere near popular enough to warrant money like that. There's nothing embarrassing enough Phil could do that to draw enough eyes because nobody follows him outside of these very small niche communities. $5k for Phil is excessive. Boogie is the only one there that maybe could warrant that.
This. I think even Phil still has enough common sense to spot when something is too good to be true. Not to say that Phil can't be baited. Tut hit that sweet spot of just the right amount of money without it sounding too good to be real. Same with pushup guy, he baited Phil with the promise of what, $100 or $200? IIRC, there was some other podcaster dude a few years back that offered 1k or something and almost got Phil to agree to an interview. Heck, Slayer is a non-detractor example, granted he's definitely donated an absurd amount to Phil over the years. IMO, if Keem offered $5k for a podcast appearance or whatever he was doing, it'd probably work, or he'd at least be able to drag it out longer and get Phil to call him "sir" in his response tweets.
There is actually some legal precedent in this. Since Slayer was the one who commissioned the work he would have copyright, as Phil would not have created the content in question without the direction and compensation of Slayer. This is how Marvel screwed over a lot of their original writing staff and kept copyright over a bunch of their characters even though the guys were freelance.
