The U.S. already builds miles and miles of new highway expansions every single year, which also require constant maintenance. States pour insane amounts of money into widening roads, which don't even reduce traffic (due to induced demand) yet they keep thinking if they just built 2, 3, 4, or 5 more lanes the problem will solve itself. Additionally, the largest single use of eminent domain in the U.S. is in the construction and widening of highways.

Induced demand is a misnomer for latent demand. It is a complaint that people actually use types of infrastructure that urban planners and transit advocates don’t like. If you expand a road and congestion decreases, people get to their destinations faster. If congestion stays the same, then more people are using it to get somewhere than before, which is a positive benefit.

Also, urbanists only apply induced demand theory to roads. Using the theory’s logic, why should we build more housing when it will just be filled up and rents won’t decrease? Why build another train line when the current one is so packed that you can’t move since a new line would be just as full in no time? Why build anything at all?

Induced demand is a stupid theory with no basis in economics.

Would Alan Fisher count as a bughive channel? YouTube is currently spamming him in my recommended after I watched a single video of his. He seems to have your typical internet "urbanist" opinions. I refuse to watch him since I find his meme filled thumbnails obnoxious as fuck.

Trains are history, although I personally think any serious country would try and preserve their rail network and passenger service (even if the government sees it as a favor, it's better than nothing) because it is vital infrastructure no matter how you look at it. Marxism is a very twisted ideology. It believe mass industrialization and urbanism and the destruction of traditional values is a good thing and one of few things that should be preserved when moving into Socialism. Marxism is an industrial ideology and has always hated peasants and rural peoples. Leninists simply superficially pandered claiming they will be liberated too while persecuting them. In fact it originally wasn't even the Hammer and Sickle, previous movements before the Bolsheviks rarely used the sickle as I am aware of an just had the hammer. Marxists love urban hellholes.

Yeah they're expensive and difficult to build compared to midrise commieblocks but monumentalism is especially important in government buildings. Again he seems to obsesse around the word "dick", emphasising it each time he speaks about dictators' dickwaving. Perhaps he's gay? it wouldn't surprise me for a czech eurocrat.

The egyptians provide ample green space in the form of a large park, which adamfaggot derides (again) as pure dickwaving. Then a rant about american style suburbs follow. It wouldn't be a bughive channel if he didn't rant about them. There is a long part where he takes up arms for the poors and the social inequality of modern, upper-middle class and upper class development, calling the entire project an attempt at isolating the ruling class from the people.

In general the points he make aren't really about the new capital in specific. They're all very generalised anti skyscraper, anti suburb and anti blank slate development, with nothing critiquing the actual realities of the new administrative capital. It's just bad because it isnt throwing money at the poors.

TL; DW:

Never underestimate what the transgender pajeets pulling the strings at YouTube are capable of. I too watch mainly gaming and movie content, yet I get tons of recommendations for John Oliver, Jimmy Kimmel, MSNBC, wine mom TikTok songs, and a few BreadTubers here and there.
