With all the talk of the current whitehouse larping the west wing, I thought I'd go watch a couple of episodes again, just to remind myself.
In the show, President Bartlett is an outsider, kicking over established norms, throwing curve balls at everyone, and refusing to bow to the political machine. The guy is emitting big Trump energy. He's also, politically speaking, not that far from Trump's apparent position on a lot of things, which says more about the way politics in the US has shifted in the last thirty years than anything.

Manchin on a lot of issues will still play ball with Democrats and the Democrats know if they get rid of Manchin, Republicans will permanently take the seat. Manchin knows this but at the same time he is the last of a dying breed of Democrat and that carries a certain appeal to it, especially in West Virginia which used to be a very blue state from the 1930s-1990s only going red a few times(Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan). If he became a Republican he would basically be another RINO in a sea of RINOs, as an Independent he would join other "Independents" who are just Democrats who don't have the balls to call themselves one. So on Manchin's side of things he is in the perfect position where he is basically the most powerful Democrat in the US right now.

Interesting, except for a few almost performative "TRANS LIVES" retweets, mostly I'm seeing information on nuclear waste and reclamation.
But, here's a little from his Twitter.
I'm not a fan, but it looks like despite being a sex weirdo (And trust me, you don't wanna know what some of the people in NEC got up to) he's on point.

He's immune to blackmail. No Chinese agent can roll up and go "Give us secrets or we'll tell everyone you like to ride around hairy buff dudes in leather dog masks" when he's already made it VERY public.
