The artists being political thing reminds me of wayyy back on Deviantart in 2011, when fandom discourse wasn't as intense as it is now. It was noticed then that het shippers tended to be younger and were not good at drawing. Slash fanartists tended to be better, with prime examples being in the Hetalia fandom. Today that translates to left wingers tended to have greater say in fandom politics and artists in general being left-leaning.
The ones who might be left leaning but leave their politics open are generally harassed for not obeying the current trends. I hadn't known Sakimichan was harassed by other fanartists for not supporting St. Floyd.
