OK so someone I know has had 14 surgeries over 7 years from a car accident a really really bad one it was a 45mph dead on collision with a 96 year old man who told the police "im not supposed to drive at night" but was out driving "helping" their 45 year old daughter moving.

There's no standard of care for these surgeries as they are essentially experiments. I'm sure the consent form they sign states this. If the surgeon has made it clear there are no guarantees, suing is a waste of time.
