The law has either immediate or 6 month restraining orders for firearms. The former requires an “immediate and present danger” to the gun owner or to others. The latter requires evidence of a history of violence/criminal behavior or recent threats of violence. I don’t think anyone was aware of what he was doing or at least didn’t know without the benefit of hindsight.

Following the shooting during an Independence Day parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park that killed at least six people, a local Chabad emissary said he had witnessed the suspected shooter entering a synagogue during the Jewish festival of Passover in April.

Rabbi Yosef Schanowitz recognized the photo of 22-year-old Robert E. Crimo III released by police following the shooting, and realized he had encountered the suspect a few months earlier, according to the Israel National News website.

“During the last Passover holiday, that person entered the Chabad synagogue. We have an armed security guard sitting in front… I approached him and sternly asked him to leave as I noticed he was not a member of our community,” Schanowitz was quoted as saying.

It doesn't sound like the guy did anything sus, just his being there while looking like a total meth head freak instead of a religious Jew was sus enough.

The concern would be that Boss Nigger and the Supremes might not go ahead with their alleged desire to revisit whichever SCOTUS cases involved "High capacity" magazines and similar.
I vaguely recall this being the plan in the wake of them striking down the "May issue" infringement, but I don't know the details.

Theoretically SCOTUS shouldn't give a shit about current events and would go ahead regardless, but I'd be concerned they'll puss out.

State-wide legislation should be a secondary concern. If SCOTUS act correctly, Illinois would no longer be able to infringe your 2nd amendment rights.

The Democrats are going to push for gun bans regardless of whether a massacre happens or not, and they adopting whatever ideas that Everytown or Moms Demand Action tell them.

A lot of the Democrats on the state level are acting like they in the San Francisco Bay Area as well.

SCOTUS went way harder than anyone expected after a decade of demonizing the AR-15 since Sandy Hook and with two mass murders weeks before the decision.

At least they can't blame this shooting on CCWs lol though there are still AWB cases pending in California and Maryland in reference to those kind of bans as well.
