In a troon thread recently I pointed out that while prior generations had OCD symptoms that trended towards hyperfocus on religious topics- sin, purity, blasphemous thoughts, being sure you did a ritual correctly or said a prayer with the right feeling- zoomers are trending towards many, many more cases of homosexual and transgender OCD, which are hung up on being "sure" that you aren't gay or trans. It's just like any other type of OCD with the same symptoms- mentally checking and re-checking, seeking reassurance, compulsively "researching," testing ideas and then panicking when your brain responds to the "test." Gender and sexual identity are sort of the "religion" of their generation so it makes sense that it would supplant traditional religious ideology in people with this particular mental illness. But at the end of the day, it's the same mental illness and recognizable as such if you know what to look for.

Same thing is going on with other mental illnesses as well. The ideologies and obsessions of this new era are supplanting the old tropes for paranoid schizophrenics, depressives, everybody.

This guy appears to be a prime example of that. His mental illness latches onto whatever is salient in his environment- Trump flags, socialist rose logos, numbers and mystic shit from his mom's New Age pals. But at the root, it's just mental illness that makes him the freak he is.

The next Dylan Roof will get blanket coverage for weeks or months. It won't matter that it is a one in a million type deal.

Reminds me of when the media kept hyping up the idea that mass shooting were gonna occur at screenings of Joker. They so desperately wanted to paint the movie as "dangerous" and a trigger for "incels" to rise up and commit terror in its name, due to both them not understanding internet culture and a desire for another tragedy to exploit. The corporate press pushes a narrative that "right-wing terrorism" is the biggest threat to America today as a means to demonize Trump and his supporters as well as convince the liberal half of the country to hate their fellow Americans. So of course, they're gonna latch onto this shooting as a means to further promulgate it.
