I thought Fly was a decent episode. It's just not supposed to be in Better Call Saul.

Apparently the old guy was too fucking ambiguous for mouthbreathers so they needed a new guy that screams "I'm a threat" in their head?
Don Harvey was apparently tied to a contract with some show on HBO during filming, so they had to get a new guy in and reshoot the Jeff scenes for continuity.

I don't really like the new actor. He doesn't give off the same air of uneasiness that the old Jeff had. The new guy sounds like someone trying really hard to sound threatening. He couldn't even pull off the cold stare in the rearview mirror scene that old Jeff did -- new guy just looks like a sad puppy.

Goddamnit, I was really looking forward to the Jeff plot and now they fucked it. 6B is going to suck, isn't it?

Why is everyone freaking out that they recast a minor (in terms of number of appearances) character? For whatever reason, they couldn't or didn't want to get the original actor, so they recast him. Sometimes that shit happens in Hollywood. Eric Foreman didn't have PTSD because his sister was played by a different woman. Will Smith didn't have PTSD because his Aunt Vivian suddenly looked and sounded differently after giving birth.
Sure, the new actor kind of sucks compared to the old dude, but everyone is way overthinking this when the simple answer is they recast him because they had to.

What would a bottle episode of BCS even look like? Who would be in it?

The closest we got is Saul and Mike alone in the desert but they moved around a lot and what led up to it was some serious action movie shit that had to have cost a lot of money.

I think people view Vince Gilligan as this godlike individual who just wills things into existence, so if that actor changed, it was some choice by Vince, and his choice sucked, and he is a shitty god.

That's not totally wrong, he's as close to a divine entity as you get in television, but that doesn't mean that every single thing that happens is in his control.

Someone should ask him. Why?

Because if it was a choice, it was a bad choice.

Because these are supposed to be prestigious incredible shows with the highest levels of writing and productions. Yet actors are willing to drop out and show no care in the world for completing their part. It also shows that the production is disorganized that they cannot even secure a minor part across two seasons without major scheduling conflicts. You would think that getting what could be a major iconic part on a huge show with its own universe of shows and movies, in the last season, where you are directly antagonizing the protagonist, would be something that most actors dream of. But this actor walked away from it like it was nothing.

The Sopranos recast one of Tony's sisters and it lead to some of the worst dialog in the entire series. Game of Thrones was notorious for just randomly recasting parts for no reason whatsoever. It just shows that there is no artistic integrity or an extreme lack of business sense.

You just answered your own question there, buckaroo

Recasts can be jarring. Especially when someone either looks and/or acts completely different. I get why people are upset considering this guy might be the big piece in the endgame of BCS.

Maybe the old actor quit acting altogether. Maybe he's sick and can't work. Maybe the production was terrible and there is no amount of money that Vince could personally guarantee him to come back. Maybe he was just an asshole to work with and no one wanted him back. Maybe he got strangled by a vengeful opera house spirit.
It sucks, but at the end of the day, it's a tv show. It's not that big of a deal. Sometimes shit happens, and you just gotta roll with it. The show must go on.
I've never watched the Sopranos or Game of Thrones. I've heard that the last seasons or couple of seasons sucked, but I never once heard anyone go "Man, Game of Thrones would have ended perfectly if they didn't recast that character." I've never heard anyone lament that the sudden cut to black ending in Sopranos was perfect save for the fact that Tony's sister was played by two different actresses throughout the show.

Yeah, but the new actor sucking doesn't explain why people are trying to prove that this is really a 4D chess move by Vince to show the audience that Saul totally has PTSD you guys!!!
Again, they had to recast the actor. The new actor happens to suck. That's pretty much it. There's no grand vision or conspiracy.
Unless Vince comes out and straight up says "We recast this character to show the audience Saul's declining mental state and the trauma of working at a Cinnabon." If that happens, then I'll admit I'm wrong and that it was retarded to recast the taxi driver.

Oh, my bad. It's because fanboys are fucking retarded and can't accept that something could simply be contract negotiations, bad acting, bad casting choice, or simply a hasty line read for a fucking commercial.
